In order to further promote the study, publicity and implementation of Xi JinpingThought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for aNew Era, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), to unite and mobilize the masses of women in the capital city to make contributions in the new era, on the afternoon of March 5, ahead of the 109th International Women's Day, Beijing Women's Federation(BWF) held a commendation ceremony themed “Capital Women Follow the Party’s Leadership of the Party;Welcome the14th Beijing Women’s Congress” at the Theatre of the Capital Library, awarding winners of this year’s national and local March 8th Red-Banner Holder titles, whilst showcasing the charisma of outstanding womenfrom all walks of life in the capital.

 

Cai Shumin,Member of the Leading Party Group of All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), Member of the Secretariat of ACWF, President and Secretary of Party Group of BWF, Qi Shujuan, Vice-Directorof the Publicity Department of ACWF, chief editor of China Women's News Sun Qianbin, and Zhao Jiachen, vice president as well as deputy Party secretary of National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPC), attended the event. Award-winning individuals and leaders of the awarded units, including the Beijing Municipal Work Commission on Education, Beijing Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, Beijing Municipal Health Commission, Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, Xuanwu Hospital, Peking University, Beijing Capital Highway Development Corporate, etc., were present at the ceremony. Members of the Party Group of BWF and leading officials at the Beijing municipal bureau level also took part in the event.

 

The commendation consists of three parts, which respectively highlight the theme of“WomenFollowing the Leadership of the Party”, “WomenBringing Warmth”, and “WomenMakingNew Contributions”, featuring the achievements obtained in different fields in women’s and children’s work in the capital over the last 70 years since the founding of the PRC. Six of the National March 8th Banner Pacesetterawardwinners and representatives of the National March 8th Red Banner Collective title holders shared their touching stories by way of interactive interviews, musical poetry recitals, songs, comedy and other forms, showcasing contemporary women’s pursuit of their dreams as well as their spirit of making contributions in the new era.

 

The first part "Women Follow the Leadership of the Party " was unveiled by an etiquette show named"Ritual Style of NCPC" performed by the auditorium Service Department of the National Center for the Performing Arts, which earned a collective title for this year’s National March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter award.

 

As service providers of the highest artistic palace in the country, they exert to their upmost the distinct features and advantages of women's carefulness, thoughtfulness and patience, taking their working posts as a stage of striving for excellence, ensure high standard services for various important performances and foreign affairs activities, showcasing the "golden standard capital service" to the whole world with their actual actions. They are a group of people who embody the very trend and spirit among contemporary Chinese womenwho are down-to-the-earthontheir ordinary posts yet still daringly pursuing their dreams. PuCunxin, a renownedactor and performing artist from Beijing People's Art Theater, presented the award to the auditorium Service Department of the National Center for the Performing Arts.

 

Accompanied by the folk music Green is the Mountain played by the Folk Orchestra of Cuiwei Campus of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China (often abbreviated as RDFZ), Liu Xiaohui, principal of Cuiwei Campus and executive principal of Tongzhou Campus of RDFZ as well as the March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter title holder, came forward to receive the award.As an educator working at grass-root level school, she has put in over 30 years of committed and dedicated service in education,constantly striving to offer satisfactory education for society. She actively promotes balanced development of high-quality education resources, shows care and concern for each child, in an effort to shapeRDFZ’s CuiweiCampus into a high-quality school that benefits residents in the locality. Even after being stricken with cancer, Liu persists in shouldering heavy load of responsibility, and she did a marvelous job taking a lead in the building Tongzhou sub-Center campus of RDFZ, launching a new chapter in the field of education in the capital along with her colleagues, which well reflects women's fantastic charismain taking on responsibility in the new era. Li Dongfang, winner of Beijing Ten Role Models for 2018, presented the award for Liu Xiaohui.

 

Over the past 70 years, women of variousethnic groups and from all walks of life throughout the country have “held up half of the sky” in their respective work towards the construction of the capital. Women's federations at all levels in the capital have acted on their own initiatives to push forward the reform, innovate their working modes, revitalize women’swork in the capital with sincerityandgenuineness, and bring warmth and caring for women at the community level. The second part "Women BringingWarmth" was unveiled in the recitation of the poem "Brilliance of the Women"as the background music.

 

"I am not that fondof talking big and vowing to “heal the wounded and rescue the dying”. My only wish is that all the patients that have been treated can live healthily." This is the most authentic voice from the bottom of heart of the ordinary nurses working at emergency rooms. Emergency rooms are the battlefield where the medical staff rescue and protect lives and rushing footsteps are the very trumpet of their rescue work, as they need to rush to handle life-threatening medical emergencies that require immediate treatment. In this department, woman accounts for 80% of the medical staff. They treat nearly 170,000 emergenciesand rescue more than 7,000 critically ill patients a year, an average of 20 people per day. They are the medical staff of the Emergency Department of Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, recipient of this year’s March 8th National Red-Banner Pacesetter Collective award. They go all out to fulfill the mission of saving life and bring strength and warmth to society. Wang Kerong, head nurse of Red Ribbon Home of Beijing Ditan Hospital, who is also this year’sNational March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter title holder,presented the award to the group of “angels in white”.

 

With dedication, persistence and perseverance, she has made her name a brand that symbolizes standard, a norm of post, a symbol of warmth, which travels widely, and becomes known at a stunning speed. She is Fang Qiuzi, the National March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter award winner, head of the Qiuzi Service Brand creator, who comesfromBeijing Capital Highway Development Corporate, where she works as an ordinary highway toll collector. Through building the brand of "Qiuzi Service" named after her, Fang explores the service standards in the field of highway toll collection, provides high-quality traffic services for passing vehicles, enables the "Capital Expression" to convey more warmth, adds a bright touch to the construction of a country with powerful transportation, which fully reflects the spirit of craftswomen making contributions in the new era on their ordinary posts.

 

On siteof the event, Fang Qiuzigave a vivid account of her daily work, and her skillful gesture communication, caring consultation and responses won the applause of the audience. Li Suli, who is also a model of the times in the traffic service industry and holder of the title of March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter, presented the prize for Fang Qiuzi.

 

They are all working on ordinary posts, yet the pursuit for beauty in their hearts is never extraordinary. The Dance of Sanitation Envoys, a dance performed by ordinary sanitation workers, culminates the beautiful posture of millions of women in the capital who are striving for their dreams in the new era.

 

The third part "Women Making New Contributions" is unveiled by the interactive interviews of four female media people. In the new era, more and more women in the capital engage themselves in the new industries and new business models; they proceed unwaveringly towards their goals, showingthat they are no worse than men. The Beijing Women's Federation further builds a communication bridge with the mass of women by establishing a new media center and the Capital Women's Media Coalition.

 

On the spot of the ceremony, a female representative from the Capital Women's Media Coalition conducted interactive interviews, which fully gathered the strength of the female media people, and through the work of female media people, guide the masses of women in the capital to carry forward the spirit of the times and become new women in the new era.

 

Home is the smallest country, whilst country is made up of tens of millions. The Chinese dream guides the family dreams, and the family dreamsare connected with the Chinese dream. In their trivial and ordinary daily work, they uphold fairness and justice, settle disputes by law, resolve complex disputes with tenderness, thereby savingnumerous families that are on verge of breaking up, and consolidating the cornerstone of family, society and national harmony. They are the National 38th Red Banner Collective, Beijing's first professional family disputes trial court --the Family Trail Division of FangshanDistrict Court. Since thefounding of the family affairs division in 2014, they have tried more than 10,000 complex and difficult marriage and family cases and borne witness to the harmonious rebirth of tens of thousands of families. They are ordinary judges of family affairs, and moreover, they are thecreators of a harmonious and civilized fashion and trend. The skit Going Home vividly depicts the routine work of the Family Trail Division of Fangshan District Court, which blends the family law with feelings in attempts to resolve family contradictions. Qi Shujuanpresented awards to the Family Trial Division of FangshanDistrict Court.

 

As the poem goes, “Most Chinese daughters have desires so strong, they’d face powder rather than to powder the face.” Originally a student at Peking University, she chose to join the army and put on her military uniform. She became the only female escorting the Gulf of Aden and won glory for Chinese soldiers in her most beautiful youth. She is Song Xi, a national Red Banner Pacesetter winner and deputy secretary of the League Committee of the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences, Peking University. She fully embodies the new era female demeanor of integrating personal dream into the national dream and assuming the responsibility of national rejuvenation. On the spot of the ceremony, Song performed a widely popular patriotic song named Red Flag Fluttering, which ignited the enthusiasm of the audience. CaiShuminpresented the award for Song Xi.

 

Women in the capital took initiatives to engage themselves in the practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. They are at the forefront of reform and opening-up, in the main battlefield of poverty alleviation, in the front line of rural revitalization. They are at the most basic level in the construction of Beautiful China, working in various sectors of society, and exerting their wisdom and strength in the development of their motherland. The whole event ended up with a chorus of My Motherland and I sung by all.

More than 500 participants fromall walks of life across the country, including the March 8thRed Banner Pacesetterindividual and collective winners, the national women's team, the national women's civilized post, the Beijing 38 Red Banner Pacesetter award winners, female representatives from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, the women's committees of various democratic parties, the veteran cadres of the women's federation, representatives of the most beautiful families in the capital, part time and full-time cadres of women's federations and grass-roots women attended the event. The event coincided with the Lei Feng's Day that falls on March 5 annually, and women volunteers from the capital also took part in the activity.
