As the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) approached, the Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) held a commemorative medal awarding ceremony for its staff bearing five decades of party membership. Twenty-six retired cadres of BWF received the medals.

Recipients of the commemorative medals included Chen Xinlian, a centenarian who participated in the preparations for BWF's establishment, Xu Zhongji, a retired cadre who was a member of the Party's children's corps and helped her mother deliver information in revolutionary times, and Lu Chang, who joined the Party before she was 16 years old under the influence of their parents.

The commemorative medals were awarded to guide Party members and cadres to keep in mind their original aspiration and mission, inherit the red gene and preserve the tradition of working hard, and strive to be outstanding Party members and cadres who are loyal to the Party, have moral integrity and demonstrate a keen sense of responsibility.

The medals, measuring 50 mm in diameter, are made of copper-zinc alloy, and come in hues of red and gold, bearing the Chinese characters that translate to "Glorious 50 years as a CPC member" in English and elements such as the Party emblem, the five-pointed star, flags, rays of light and sunflowers.

Zhang Yajun, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and President of the BWF, put the commemorative medals on the chests of the recipients, shook hands with them one by one, thanked them for their contributions to the cause of women in the capital, and hoped that they will continue to support women's work in Beijing.

Young Party members presented flowers to the recipients, expressing that they would take over the baton, not forget the original aspiration, fulfill their obligations, and strive for the cause of Communism for a lifetime.

Tong Guilan, on behalf of the medal recipients, told her story about joining the Party. Li Ruiqin, 90, sang the song Staying True to the Original Aspiration to express her love for the Party. Other recipients also expressed that they have received thoughtful care from the Party, the government and BWF, and they live comfortably after retirement. They said they will remain true to their original aspiration and keep their mission firmly in mind. They will strengthen their awareness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment with the central Party leadership, and they will remain confident in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristic. They will uphold Xi Jinping's position as the core of the CPC Central Committee and in the Party as a whole, and uphold the CPC Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership. They will always preserve a Party member's political character, carry forward the revolutionary spirit and carry on learning to make contributions to the development of the cause of women in the capital.

In their speeches, representatives of younger Party members stated that they will learn from the senior Party members, continuously improve their political capability, strengthen their ideals and beliefs, and make contributions to the cause of women in the capital.

The medal awarding ceremony reflects affirmation of the loyalty and dedication of the senior Party members. It is also a tribute to the senior Party members not forgetting their original aspiration and keeping their mission in mind, and inheritance of their fine conduct and valuable spirit. Applicants for Party membership and new Party members should inherit glorious tradition, and pass the virtues of the predecessors on to subsequent generations.

On the eve of July 1, the birthday of the CPC, leaders of the BWF visited the recipients of the commemorative medals, delivering the care of the Party to them.

Looking back at the memorable years of the past, the journey was hard and the success came from the struggle. The coming journey will be long and only forging ahead and continuing to contribute will bring success. Every Party member and cadre must always keep their original aspiration and mission in mind, and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC with outstanding achievements.
