To mark the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Zhang Yajun, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and President of Beijing Women's Federation (BWF), gave a themed class titled "Remember the glorious history, inherit the red gene and continue the cause of women in the capital" on June 29. Party members and cadres of BWF attended the class which is one of BWF's activities for carrying out the CPC history learning and education campaign.

"There are certain historic occasions that empower us the wisdom and strength to move forward." Zhang opened with the remarks made by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, emphasizing the importance of the Party history learning and education. She pointed out that the Party-wide history learning and education campaign is a major task assigned by the CPC Central Committee. Since the campaign was initiated in March, BWF has attached great importance to it and taken it as its primary political task. She said that in strict accordance with the requirements of the CPC central committee and Beijing municipal committee, the federation has carried out the campaign based on thorough study and deep understanding and completed all the required tasks. It has also focused on its responsibilities with concrete measures. She affirmed that some progress has been made by implementing the campaign.

Zhang said during the lecture that it is necessary to grasp the main theme and mainstream character of the Party history, and to draw wisdom and strength of persistent struggle. Taking the historical TV series The Age of Awakening as an example, she led the cadres to review the deeds of revolutionary martyrs such as Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao. Countless people with lofty ideals shed blood and sacrificed for the country and the people. Their great contributions will always be marked in the country's history.

Zhang said that it is necessary to take the Party's century-old history as a history of unremitting struggle, theoretical exploration, no fear of sacrifice, benefiting the people, and a history of self-construction. She emphasized that all cadres need to understand the inevitability of adhering to the leadership of CPC, the ideological power of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the people-centered development philosophy, the law and general trend of historical development, and the great spirit of the Communists.

Zhang urged BWF to inherit the red gene and provide inexhaustible impetus for unremitting efforts. Zhang reviewed the glorious history of the women's movement over the 100 years since the founding of CPC, and told various stories combining the valuable practices and experience of BWF in uniting and leading women in different periods. She mentioned stories of women in Beijing during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), underground workers in western Beijing during the War of Liberation (1946-49), the donation of "Beijing Women" fighter jets during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53), and BWF's childcare services in the 1980s.

She emphasized the important role of the women's movement in the Party's great cause and she urged to inherit the tradition of women's federations in the capital always responding to the Party's call, to deepen the understanding of the rules of women's work in the new era, and to always adhere to the spirit of reform and innovation to open up new prospects for work.

Zhang said that BWF must respond to the needs of people, take responsibility, and do practical work for women. Zhang pointed out that the creation of new history is the best commemoration of the past. The ultimate goal of learning Party history is to put it into practice, through studying the Party's history, understanding its theories, doing practical work and making new advances.

Based on the functional attributes of women's federations, BWF will respond to the overall work plans of the municipal government by helping accelerate the efforts to build Beijing into a child-friendly city, improving child protection, implementing women's technological innovation campaign, empowering women in development and providing targeted care and assistance.

Zhang hoped that all Party members and cadres of BWF will think about their work concerning women and families in big-picture terms people's livelihood and the great cause of the CPC and they will take proactive actions with a problem-oriented view and serve the country's overall development with solid results in women's work. She also hoped the cadres will achieve solid results in learning and carry out the Party history learning and education campaign in accordance with the requirements of the municipal Party committee.

Zhang also asked cadres to take the participation of major events as a good practice for the Party history learning and education campaign and earnestly assume their political duty of uniting women, and continue to do practical work for women, in order to make greater contributions towards the new journey of building a socialist modern country in all respects, and celebrate the CPC centenary with outstanding achievements.
