The Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) and the Beijing School Moral Education Research Association (BSMERA) held a symposium on March 4 at the Beijing Women and Children's Social Service Center, on the theme "celebrating International Women's Day and sharing ideas about school-family-society cooperation." Guan Guozhen, president of the BSMERA, Zhang Yajun, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and President of the BWF and Zhao Hongwei, Member of the Leading Party Members' Group and Vice-President of the BWF, attended the event.

Nine principals of schools and kindergartens, based on their own work experience, introduced the concept, ideas and specific work of the school-family-society cooperation mechanism in terms of strengthening resource integration and moving toward the same targets, centered on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. They also expressed that they will use their own advantages to do a better job of coordinating the education at home, in school and in society.

Tian Shulin, head of the Beijing No.80 High School, said the fundamental task of education is to cultivate qualified talents for society, which requires the unified efforts from families, schools and society. Liu Xiaohui, Principal of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, indicated that the three parties must unify thinking and work together to create the best environment for children.

"We must integrate family education and family tradition education into school education," said Xue Lixia, Principal of the Beijing No.2 Middle School. Yang Wenzhi, Vice-Principal of the Experimental High School Attached to Beijing Normal University, noted that coordinated educational work needs to be done to help impoverished children. Ma Dingyi, Principal of Fuxue Hutong Primary School in Beijing, claimed that schools should be the dominant player among the three parties involved in the coordination mechanism. Zhang Zhongping, President of the Beijing First Normal Affiliated Primary School, said that it is necessary to perfect the family-school-society coordinated education mechanism and provide more effective family education guidance services. Chen Jinxiang, Principal of the First Experimental Primary School of Tongzhou District, Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences, said that among the three parties, family is the basic point, the school serves as a crack force, and society is for regulation. Meng Chunyan, head of Beijing Xuanwu Huimin Kindergarten, pointed out that fostering virtue requires educating people with benevolence. Cao Xuemei, who runs the Beijing Liuyi Kindergarten, suggested focusing on encouraging families to create a harmonious space for children's growth.

Zhang Yajun said that she hoped to express her heartfelt gratitude and International Women's Day greetings to compatriots who work on education by gathering women principals in the capital at the symposium. According to Zhang, the activity aims to discover good experiences and methods to further promote home-school-society collaboration in education.

Combined with the spirits of the Fourth and Fifth Plenary Sessions of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, she explained four aspects of BWF's work to boost family education service.

The first is to highlight family education and family tradition work in the outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for the capital's economic and social development and the long-range objectives through the year 2035 to further promote women and children's development. Family-related content was added for the first time, with an eye on the construction of child-friendly city and children's mental health services. Secondly, Zhang talked about family education legislation. She introduced that research on the capital's family education legislation has been included in an investigation project of the municipal people's congress. The third is to carry out regular family investigations to make clear the needs and problems of families and channel them and targeted guidance and services.

In addition, continuous efforts should be made to promote work on mechanism, theory, curriculum, faculty and carriers, and to get greater synergy in all aspects.

Guan emphasized grasping the fundamental direction of collaborative education to educate talents for the Party and the country. She added that research should be ramped up to secure practical and effective methods. She stressed the importance of nurturing teachers and parents to support family education, with the community providing a link between them.

Before the meeting, the attendees visited the Beijing Women and Children's Social Service Center to learn about its functional areas and various services it offers to women, children and families.

After the event, professor Duan Yanping of Capital Medical University conducted a lecture on the mental health of professional women. The lecture provided participants with practical information and guidance on relieving anxiety and stress.
