Beijing Women's Federation held its official annual celebration of International Day of Families, at Beijing Sport University on May 7.

This year's gathering, based on the theme "Happy and Healthy, Enjoy Family Day", was co-hosted with the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality.

A total of 300 people participated, including Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province representatives of the Looking for the Most Beautiful Family campaign; family members of foreign diplomats; and, athletes and their family members, including Chinese table tennis world champion Wang Hao, the Olympic taekwondo gold medalist Chen Zhong, the Olympic tennis doubles gold medalist Li Ting, and Chinese curler world champion Wang Bingyu.

The event was hosted in the form of a family sports meeting in recognition of China's recent successful bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Competitive events on the day included chuiwan (an old Chinese form of golf), touhu (also known as pitch-pot), cujü (ancient football), ice hockey, basketball and table tennis — presenting participants with both the beauty of traditional Chinese games and the vitality of modern sport.

Furthermore, other activities were also hosted in the campaign, such as handicraft making, Peking Opera mask painting and children's sand painting, as well as exhibitions of children's picture books and videos about China. The families were invited to learn about the National Training Base in Beijing Sport University, which left a deep impression on foreign guests.

Jiao Yang, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF); Li Zhaoling, deputy-director of the standing committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress; Zhang Xiaoyuan, director-general of the ACWF's Publicity Department; Liu Yuhui, deputy secretary-general of the Beijing Municipal Committee; Teng Shengping, director of Capital Spiritual Civilization Office; and, Ma Lanxia, president of Beijing Women's Federation also attended the event.
