Song Yushui, 50, vice-president of China's first ever intellectual property court, has devoted 29 years to her legal position, trying to make the best of each case she works on.

Song is also a member of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a part-time vice-president of the nation's largest women-focused NGO, the All-China Women's Federation.

Despite her multiple positions and busy schedule, she always remains focused on fulfilling her duties as a magistrate.

Starting her career at 23, Song progressed from a tribunal clerk to obtain high-ranking positions at several courts in Beijing. In 2014, she was appointed vice-president of the Beijing Intellectual Property (IP) Court, and has since been taking the lead in settling time-consuming IP rights disputes.

In 2015 alone, the female judge concluded over 50 cases, with a high proportion involving problems never seen before.

"In a common drama plagiarism case, the scripts of two sides may amount to tens of thousands or even millions of words," revealed Feng Gang, a fellow judge of Song. "But she would always read through all the materials, so as to make a just conclusion with her professional knowledge and first-hand experience."

In writing judgments, the female judge tries her best to give detailed accounts of the grounds. Even as the trial ends, she discusses with both sides to answer their questions.

With her persistent devotion, Song has inspired many youngsters at her court. Li Yin, former assistant of the judge, won first prize in a written judgment contest, thanks to her constant instruction.

Su Chi, president of the Beijing court, revealed that what impresses him most about Song is that she remains calm, composed and sensible whatever the situation.

"She is loyal, honest, responsible and considerate, an outstanding CPC Party member who lives up to her reputation," he said.
