Organizers held a parent-child activity in Beijing on August 20 to connect moms and youngsters with visitors from Hotan Prefecture, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

During the ceremony at the Children and Teenager Reading Experience Center, representatives from the two regions jointly performed in a variety show.

Meanwhile, Beijing Women's Federation donated book coupons and artworks by crafts experts to the Hotan Exchange Group.

Teachers inspired children's interests in reading by guiding them to make handicrafts from instruction books.

The women communicated with each other to share their family stories, and discussed childcare issues as well as their daily lives.

Attendees included: Ma Hongping, vice-president of Beijing Women's Federation; You Xinmin, who is engaged in Beijing municipal government's Xinjiang assistance program in Hotan as deputy director of the Intellectual Support Department; and, Amina Abudula, deputy director of the office at Hotan Working Committee on Women and Children.

Further guests comprised Liu Jinbin, director of the Reading Promotion Center at the China Children's Press and Publication Group; and, some 100 women and children from both places.

According to officials, the federation will further innovatively promote communications and exchanges among ethnic groups and maintain the friendship between people from Hotan and Beijing in future.
