Beijing Women's Federation organized a lecture on September 5 on the balance between reproductive rights and job promotions among career women.
During the session, organizers invited guests to have an in-depth discussion on the topic of "women, family and society" from multiple perspectives.
Zhao Haiying, vice-president of Beijing Women's Federation, gave an address at the end of the lecture.
As a brand initiative of the organization, the lecture called for scientific, civilized and healthy lifestyles in order to promote harmony and happiness among women both in families and society.
The nation's "universal two children" policy has gained widespread attention in society and its most direct influence is upon women.
Focusing on the issue of second child, this lecture aimed to help career women step out of the dilemma between reproduction and career plans.
It advocated self-respect, confidence, self-reliance, and self-improvement among women.
The organization will hold regular lectures focusing on hot issues in relevance to women in future.
Beijing Women's Federation is committed to safeguarding women's rights and interests.
The federation conducted research after the introduction of the "universal two children" policy, for example, into women's professional development and rights protection, and, current situations of service agencies in Beijing caring for infants below 3.
Those research provided data as a basis for government's policies making.
The organization also called for improvements on public services in terms of healthcare for pregnant women and children; and, efforts in pressure relief among women about childbearing and caring for the family.
To fulfill its responsibility, the organization submitted proposals to the municipal people's congress and CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) committee.
Some suggestions were that the government should enhance its efforts in safeguarding women's rights and interests after the introduction of the second-child policy; promote the concept of fairness in employment of both genders; and, create a favorable social environment which highlights mutual respect and equal development between men and women.

Qin Jun, founder of Junzi Capital and winner of the National March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter title, said that hiring should be done on the basis that someone can show his or her capability at work and contribute toward the enterprise.
From the point of view of a manager, Qin urged working women to have a positive attitude towards competition in their careers.
"As long as you work hard and achieve excellence, you will gain recognition at the workplace. The status of being a mom shouldn't limit one's career development," she said.
Ma Liangkun, 44, serves as associate professor at the department of gynecology and obstetrics in Peking Union Medical College Hospital.
Ma shared her experience as a doctor and mom of two, and about how to keep a balance between life and work.
She said she can freely switch between the two statuses, which is inspiring for many career women on their personal life planning and mental adjustment.
Shen Jianfeng, deputy-president of the Law School at China University of Labor Relations, explained the laws and rules concerning maternity leave, workplace treatment and benefits during pregnancy. Shen also elucidated on how to deal with discrimination via labor contracts at the workplace.
