Organizers including the local women's federation held the final round of a public speaking competition and awards ceremony on September 13 in Beijing.

The event took place in the press room of the National Center for the Performing Arts, where competitors talked on the theme "Following the Party's Leadership and Greeting the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress".

Fifteen female finalists shared their stories, either on themselves or others, about making persistent contributions to society.

The awards included one grand prize, two first prizes, five second prizes and seven third prizes.

The contest was launched in May among Party and government departments, enterprises, institutions, individual and social groups.

Over 1,000 individuals entered the event, with 72 making it to the second round. They included National and Beijing March 8th Red-banner Holder award winners, leaders of farmers' cooperatives and workers with Women's Civilized Posts or Youth Civilized Posts.

Organizers hoped to offer an outstanding platform for the public to learn from women of merit in an effort to build a harmonious capital, said officials.

Cui Weiyan, director-general of the Development Department of the All-China Women's Federation, Cai Shumin, secretary of the Party Leadership Group of Beijing Women's Federation, Heng Xiaofan, dean of the Political Department of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, and Bu Xiujun, vice-dean of the civilization office in the city, attended the event, along with more than 200 women representatives.
