Entering the home of the Liu Chuang family, one’s attention is immediately drawn to a large bookshelf lining the living room wall. Alongside the books belonging to all four family members are copies of Hao Fu Mu Xiu Lian Shou Ce (A Handbook for Good Parents), written by Liu Chuang’s mother Qi Jun, youth magazines featuring Liu Chuang’s science outreach articles, various certificates of honor, and family portraits collected over the years.

Scattered throughout the room are small keepsakes from travels across China—a panda doll from Chengdu, a Yellow Crane Tower wind chime from Wuhan, and a refrigerator magnet from the grasslands—adding warmth and memories to the family home.

From a young boy who once dreamed of becoming a scientist to a middle-aged researcher still filled with passion and enthusiasm, Liu Chuang has dedicated himself to China’s aerospace industry as a researcher with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. Despite his demanding workload, his family of four remains close-knit and harmonious: husband and wife grow together as partners, while the older and younger generations pursue their own interests and aspirations.

What is the secret to this family’s happiness? A journalist from China Women’s News shares the story of this “Most Beautiful Family”.

Home: The Warmest Place to Recharge

Devoted to China’s aerospace cause, Liu Chuang has led research teams in overcoming key technological challenges in spacecraft mechanical testing, successfully completing major national projects, including space station and Mars exploration missions.

Faced with an intense workload, he prioritizes efficiency and time management, striving to complete each day’s tasks without delay. During emergencies or high-pressure assignments, he maintains a positive mindset, stays focused on objectives, and works to deliver results with the highest standards.

Perhaps because his work is so demanding, Liu Chuang especially cherishes every moment spent with his family: chatting with his mother, helping his daughter with homework, cooking with his wife, and enjoying the warmth found in ordinary daily life. Occasionally, he even makes homemade candied hawthorn treats to surprise his family with small moments of joy.

His wife, Li Li, works at Zhishang Technology Service (Beijing) Co., Ltd., a company specializing in quality management training and consulting, where she oversees marketing and business development.

Innovation and dedication define both husband and wife. Li Li has pioneered new approaches to quality management education by leading the development of online training platforms, helping cultivate tens of thousands of quality management professionals across hundreds of enterprises.

At work, she is focused and efficient; at home, she puts down her phone and gives full attention to her family. She believes that caring well for her family is precisely what allows her to sustain the demands of a high-pressure career. When her daughter prepares for major examinations, Li Li quietly accompanies her for days at a time. Whenever family members fall ill, she returns home regardless of work pressures to provide comfort and care.

As a company manager, Li Li emphasizes clear goals and efficient workflows, encouraging her team to work productively so they can enjoy more time with their own families and personal lives.

For many dual-income households, maintaining harmony between career and family life can be challenging. Yet Liu Chuang and Li Li share the same belief: home should be the warmest place to recharge, not another workplace. Family happiness, they believe, comes from mutual understanding, shared responsibility, and growing together.

It is precisely these shared values and everyday acts of support that allow them to enjoy the warmth and happiness found in ordinary life.

The couple trusts and supports one another deeply, encouraging each other to become better professionals and better people. “No matter what happens, we know that we can always rely on each other.” Because of his work responsibilities, Liu Chuang often works overtime, yet Li Li rarely complains.

When he is especially busy, she tries to come home earlier. On weekends and holidays, she takes care of household chores, accompanies their daughter in her studies, and keeps family life running smoothly.

When the whole family is together, Li Li enthusiastically becomes “activity planner,” organizing trips to parks, movie outings, or shared meals. Every Spring Festival, she arranges a family trip, transforming ordinary moments together into treasured memories filled with warmth and love.

Home: A Place for Joint Growth

Liu Chuang has always loved learning. Faced with new ideas and knowledge, he maintains curiosity and enjoys the process of continual growth. Li Li likewise continues to deepen her expertise in quality management, constantly learning and refining her professional skills while maintaining a positive and energetic outlook.

“When family members are upset, I listen patiently, help ease their anxieties, and gently offer advice,” Liu Chuang says with a smile, describing himself as emotionally steady.

“My grandmother is a devoted educator, my father pursues aerospace dreams, and my mother is committed to strengthening the nation through quality development,” said their daughter, now a first-year student at the School of Economics of Capital University of Economics and Business. “They are all my role models.”

Every year, the family carefully plans trips together, creating opportunities to relax and enjoy life amid busy work and study schedules. One of their daughter’s most unforgettable memories was a family trip several years ago to the grasslands, fulfilling her long-held wish to see the vast prairie in person. To make their daughter’s dream come true, her parents drove all the way to Ulan Butong Grassland in Chifeng during a weekend break despite the long journey.

In the summer of 2021, the family walked hand in hand across the endless grasslands beneath blue skies, surrounded by green fields, soaring wild geese, galloping horses, and blooming wildflowers. The experience became a cherished memory of shared happiness.

Family: The Source of Role Models

“My mother is my idol,” Liu Chuang says without hesitation, his words filled with pride.

Seeds planted in youth continue to grow throughout life. Liu Chuang’s mother, Qi Jun, is now 74 years old. After retiring from a career as a Chinese language teacher, she drew upon her life experience to publish A Handbook for Good Parents. Beyond caring devotedly for her family, she also records reflections and beautiful moments from daily life through writing. Her continued enthusiasm for life has not only enriched her own retirement years but has also profoundly influenced the growth of the entire family.

For Chinese families, Spring Festival is traditionally a time for reunion. For the Liu family, annual family portraits have become treasured records of happiness and togetherness. From 2007, when the granddaughter was born, to subsequent years taken at different landmarks across Beijing—including Yuyuantan Park (2008), Blue Harbor, the Capital Museum, and Chaoyang Park (2009)—each photo captures a moment in the family’s journey. In 2011, before Liu Chuang left on a lengthy business trip, Qi Jun specifically arranged for the whole family to take a portrait at the China Photo Studio. She hoped her son would always remember that no matter where he went, he carried “a Chinese heart.”

“My mother-in-law’s thoughtful care for every family member and her unwavering devotion day after day have earned the heartfelt respect and love of the younger generations,” Li Li said with deep gratitude. “She taught us the true meaning of responsibility and commitment within a family.”

In Li Li’s eyes, her mother-in-law is not only a great mother but also the steady pillar of the family. Through selfless devotion and wisdom grounded in tolerance and understanding, she sustains the family’s harmony and warmth and serves as the strongest source of support.

After retiring, Qi Jun moved from Northeast China to Beijing to help care for her son’s family, taking on countless daily household responsibilities so that Liu Chuang and Li Li could focus on their careers without worry. Drawing on decades of teaching experience, she also carefully accompanies and supports her granddaughter’s education and growth.

Li Li also strongly supports her husband’s science outreach efforts, including writing magazine columns and delivering public lectures that inspire young people to pursue scientific dreams.

By treating her mother-in-law as her own mother, Li Li hopes to set an example for her daughter—showing her what love, respect, filial piety, and care for elders truly mean.

In this family, love flows in both directions. When affection meets understanding—like the harmony of the sounds of daily life—each family member strives to support the child’s growth while striving to improve themselves.

For the Liu family, the secret to family happiness and successful parenting lies not only in companionship. As children grow and continue learning, parents must also grow as well. They believe parents should become lifelong learners themselves, advancing together with their children and supporting one another along the way.
