Women Striving for Brilliance, Serving the Nation through Science and Technology - Xicheng Venue of the 2026 National Science and Technology Workers’ Day Held

To celebrate the 10th National Science and Technology Workers’ Day, promote the spirit of scientists, and showcase the elegance and sense of mission of female science and technology workers in Beijing, the Xicheng Venue of the 2026 National Science and Technology Workers’ Day and the grassroots tour of activities themed on the culture of the spirit of scientists was held at the Beijing Science Center on the afternoon of May 26, under the banner of Women Striving for Brilliance, Serving the Nation through Science and Technology. The activity was guided by the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, the Beijing Women’s Federation and the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, hosted by the Beijing Women’s Association for Science and Technology, the Xicheng District Association for Science and Technology and the Beijing Youth Science Foundation, and co-organized by the Science Communication Center of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology and the Women’s Science and Technology Communication Working Committee of the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Journalism. Wu Jianmin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and President of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, Su Guomin, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, together with more than 200 on-site participants, including science and technology workers and student representatives from research institutes, universities and enterprises across Beijing, attended the activity. Li Jing, Executive Vice President of the Beijing Women’s Association for Science and Technology, presided over the event.

In his address, Su Guomin noted that female science and technology workers in Beijing are active across all research fields, demonstrating through their deeds that scientific and technological innovation knows no gender and hinges on commitment and dedication. He encouraged all participants to stay true to their mission, forge ahead continuously, excel in their respective fields and scale new heights, so as to inject further impetus into the development of Beijing as an international science and technology innovation center.

Wu Jianmin stated in his speech that the Beijing Women’s Association for Science and Technology has grown into an important platform for pooling female talents, displaying women’s strengths and serving the high-quality development of Beijing. He urged members to stay firm in their original aspiration and commitment to serving the country with science and technology, take the lead in pursuing pioneering innovation, and work together to achieve coordinated development.

Chen Xiangmei, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chief Physician and Professor at the Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital, delivered an inspiring message, encouraging female science and technology workers to engage in in-depth research and down-to-earth work, and apply research achievements across the country.

Luo Yuan, Associate Research Fellow at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Academy of Military Sciences of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, shared her personal experience as a frontline female science and technology worker.

Students from China Women’s University recounted the inspiring stories of distinguished senior female scientists, including Tu Youyou, Huang Lingyi and He Zehui, illustrating how the spirit of scientists has been passed down from generation to generation.

During the salon session themed Inheritance and Innovation: Answers of Female Science and Technology Talents to the Times, a group of female science and technology representatives held in-depth discussions on independent scientific and technological innovation, women’s career development and family building. The speakers included Huang Yuehui, Chief Engineer of the New Energy Institute of China Electric Power Research Institute Co., Ltd.; Wei Wenxia, Deputy Director of the Institute of Resources and Environment under the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology; Jing Liping, Vice Dean of the School of Computer and Information Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University; Li Haixia from Peking University First Hospital; and Pan Xinnong, Senior Engineer of the Meteorological Service Center of the Beijing Meteorological Bureau. Their exchanges fully presented the innovative vitality and sense of responsibility of female science and technology workers in the new era.
