In line with the All-China Women’s Federation’s 2026 summer care initiative, themed “Children’s Hearts Toward the Party: Enlightening Minds Through Reading and Growing Together,” the Beijing Women’s Federation took the lead in leveraging the public service platform of the Beijing Women and Children Service Center to set a benchmark for summer care. With dedication, the Federation launched the 2026 Summer Public-Interest Care Program, offering inclusive services to supplement family care, empower children’s growth, and deliver the care of the women’s federation. The program effectively eased the summer care dilemma for dual-income families, ensuring children enjoyed a safe, fulfilling, joyful, and meaningful holiday.

Tailored to the cognitive levels, hands-on abilities, and physical traits of different age groups, the program featured seven diverse modules: intangible cultural heritage, sci-tech creation, brain teasers & puzzles, sports, classic reading, interactive performances, and study tours. Through diverse and engaging activities, children fully immersed themselves in hands-on experiences and acquired knowledge. The thoughtful supporting services and rich curriculum also won widespread recognition from parents.

Intangible Cultural Heritage: Nurturing Young Minds Through Hands-On Experience

The intangible cultural heritage classes brought traditional folk culture to life through hands-on experiences. Children experienced the vibrant charm of Huagudeng (flower drum lantern) art and carefully crafted traditional works such as rotating lanterns and fabric collages. Through close engagement, they grasped the essence of folk customs, appreciated the spirit of craftsmanship, and allowed traditional culture to take root in their hearts.

Sci-Tech Creation: Sparking Curiosity and Innovative Thinking

The sci-tech innovation classes were both fun and engaging, continuously stimulating children’s curiosity and desire to explore. Through diverse scientific experiments and practical projects, children assembled gliders to explore aerodynamics, built radios, operated microscopes, and explored scientific mysteries up close. They also built paper models of the J-20 fighter jet and Dongfeng-5C missile, as well as an electric flag-raising platform. As young makers, children honed their hands-on skills and developed innovative thinking through practice.

Brain Teasers & Puzzles: Sharpening Minds Through Play

The brain teasers and puzzles were a huge hit. Children were provided with a wide variety of age-appropriate tools, including tangrams, disentanglement puzzles, magic rulers, and 3D marble cubes. Through fun challenges, they strengthened their logical thinking, concentration, and spatial imagination. The venue was filled with laughter as children exchanged ideas and supported one another.

Sports: Building Strength with Energy and Passion

Sports activities ran throughout the day to enhance physical fitness. Morning sessions focused on foundational physical training, while afternoons featured basketball, tennis, pickleball, and table tennis. Running, jumping, and sweating on the court, children not only strengthened their bodies but also developed teamwork and perseverance, demonstrating the vitality of youth.

Classic Reading: Cultivating Young Minds Through Books

Reading sessions offered moments of calm and enrichment. Children freely explored revolution-themed picture books and classic Chinese literature, gaining knowledge, cultivating character, and developing a deeper understanding of patriotism and traditional culture through reading aloud. By reading together and sharing reflections, they developed good reading habits, allowing the joy of books to accompany them throughout the summer and enrich their inner worlds.

Interactive Performances: Endless Joy Through Engagement

Lunchtime performances were highly anticipated, featuring exciting programs and lively interaction. Daily highlights included magic shows, shadow puppetry, Sichuan opera face-changing, and fun science experiments. Magicians invited children on stage to assist with tricks, leaving the audience amazed by the fascinating performances. Traditional shadow puppetry brought folk stories to life, with children watching attentively and asking questions. The spectacular Sichuan opera face-changing earned rounds of applause. Fun science experiments demonstrated fascinating phenomena, allowing children to observe and participate up close. The entire performance series combined viewing, participation, and hands-on experiences. The relaxing, joyful atmosphere helped children recharge while broadening their horizons through interaction and play.

Study Tours: Learning Through Exploration and Practice

Outdoor study tours created immersive learning experiences, helping children combine knowledge with action and develop ideals through exploration. They visited the Tiananmen Square Flag Guard for patriotic education, listening carefully and observing training in a solemn atmosphere to deepen their love for the country. At the China Soong Ching Ling Science & Culture Center for Young People, they engaged in health education and scientific exploration, gaining exposure to cutting-edge science knowledge. Through immersive experiences, they developed innovative thinking and enhanced their understanding of health and science. These outdoor learning experiences broke the boundaries of textbooks, allowing children to step outside classrooms and broaden their horizons.

Through diverse courses and thoughtful companionship, this summer public-interest care program effectively eased the childcare pressure on dual-income families. The engaging activities allowed children to learn happily and enjoy themselves fully. Many children exclaimed: “Every day brings something new! I made new friends, learned so much, and had a truly meaningful summer!” Parents also spoke highly of the program as professional and considerate, with well-designed courses and enriching activities that gave them complete peace of mind.

Women’s federations at all levels across Beijing will continue to focus on the practical needs of women, children, and families. They will continuously improve the content and format of public-interest services with dedication and empathy, safeguarding the healthy and happy growth of children in the capital.
