On the afternoon of August 6, 22 delegates from Taiwan attending the 2026 Cross-Strait Social Organizations Exchange Festival visited the Tuanjiehu Subdistrict Civic Activity Center in Chaoyang District to learn about grassroots governance in Beijing.

The delegates toured a range of community programs, including the Children’s Observation Group, the Youth Night School, and calligraphy exchange sessions. They also observed public cultural and sports services offered at the table tennis room and dance studio, and viewed the “Juyuanhao” traditional handmade bow-and-arrow display and the Calligraphy and Painting Society’s permanent exhibition. In addition, they joined local women in a hands-on workshop to make dried-flower enamel porcelain vases. The visit gave them a well-rounded picture of the community’s skills training, women’s support services, and neighborhood convenience programs, offering firsthand insight into how Beijing leverages grassroots governance, pools diverse resources, and establishes a modern community governance framework.

Following the tour, women representatives from Beijing and Taiwan gathered for a themed salon titled “Women United in Harmony, Building a Better Future Together.” Lu Lili, Chairperson of the Chaoyang District Women’s Federation, introduced the district’s grassroots women’s organizational system—structured around “one axis” and “two rings”—and outlined a suite of signature services spanning women’s care, entrepreneurship training, family development, and child-friendly initiatives under the three pillars of “benefiting women, benefiting careers, and benefiting families.” Zhu Xiaowei, Honorary Chairperson of the Taiwan Taihua Women’s Federation, shared her personal experiences and expressed her deep affection for her ancestral homeland and her aspiration for women across the Taiwan Strait to stand united. Mi Lin, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Panjiayuan International Folk Culture Development Co., Ltd. and Director of the Panjiayuan Women Livestreamers Alliance (Women’s Committee), shared insights into the inheritance of Chinese cultural heritage shared by Beijing and Taiwan, with the digital antiques and collectibles industry as an example. Guan Chunhong, Cultural Ambassador of Aimer, Chief Lecturer at Aimer Academy, and Director of the Women’s Committee of the Chaoyang District Federation of Industry and Commerce, shared her reflections on using fashion and philanthropy as bridges to bring women across the Strait closer together. Wang Xiaolin, Science and Technology Project Supervisor at Beijing Wandong Medical Technology Co., Ltd. and Director of its Women’s Committee, presented her company’s efforts to nurture innovation and creativity among female employees and expressed hope for deeper exchanges and expanded collaboration between women in science and technology on both sides of the Strait. Other Taiwan delegates weighed in with their own perspectives on topics ranging from overseas Chinese and returnee communities to the role of grassroots women’s organizations. They noted that the visit had given them a vivid, firsthand look at women’s development in Beijing, and pledged to seize this opportunity to rally women across the Strait around shared goals of innovation, entrepreneurship, and win-win cooperation.

The 2026 Cross-Strait Social Organizations Exchange Festival is jointly hosted by the Beijing Association for Promoting Civil Exchanges Across the Taiwan Strait and the People’s Government of Chaoyang District. From August 6 to 10, the festival takes Taiwan delegates to Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, and other locations for themed visits across five areas, including cultural exchange, technological innovation, and grassroots collaborative governance. Officials from the Beijing Women’s Federation, the Chaoyang District Women’s Federation, and the Tuanjiehu Subdistrict accompanied the delegation on the visit.
