The Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) organized a group of six experts, in women's health, law, e-commerce, and hand-knitting, to give lectures and skill training in Lhasa, Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, from July 21 to 26, as a part of its assistance program with Lhasa Women's Federation. The program is launched for the purpose of thoroughly implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at a grand gathering to mark the nation's poverty alleviation accomplishments and honor model poverty fighters, held in February 2021, and fully implementing the spirit of a high-level meeting on Tibet work, held in August 2020. It also accords with the important instructions of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Beijing municipal government on strengthening pairing assistance work.

Nearly 800 women from Chengguan and Doilungdeqen districts, Nyemo and Damxung counties in Lhasa attended the lectures and training. The organizers also held an activity to extend care for left-behind children whose parents work far away from their hometowns.

The lectures on health highlighted prevention of diseases. Yu Danna, a health expert of a Beijing company, provided a targeted explanation of health care knowledge from the aspects of menstrual health, pregnancy health, postpartum and lactation health, and professional women's mental health as well as the symptoms, dangers, prevention and treatment of common gynecological diseases, which enhanced women's health risk prevention awareness and helped them contribute to economic and social development. The trainees considered the explanations to be practical and very helpful in changing some unhealthy habits in their daily lives.

The lectures on legal rights highlights problem solving. By using real cases as examples, Jia Danqi, a lawyer, spoke about rights protection around the marriage and family issues facing today's society based on her years of experience in mediating marriage and family disputes. The lectures not only enriched the legal knowledge of trainees, who are presidents and members of executive committees of town-level women's federations, but also helped improve their ability to solve practical problems. At the same time, it promoted legal knowledge of women's rights protection, and encouraged women to know the law and use legal weapons to protect their rights and interests.

The e-commerce training conducted by Ma Yingquan, general manager of a business company in Beijing, helped trainees understand the meaning and types of e-commerce and experience how to open an online shop and use online payments, so that more people with aspirations could start their own businesses and sell high-quality agricultural products to all places over the country and even the world. That can promote the development of the local economy in rural areas, and increase the income of rural families.

The handicraft techniques and works in both Beijing and Tibet have long history and rich varieties. Exchanges between the two places will benefit the inheritance and development of culture and help women command skills for making a living. Qi Yuejing, founder of an art development company in Beijing, taught low-income women in Lhasa how to make hand-knitted products, embroidery and sachets. The trainees tried their best to complete their own works and mastered some skills, which will help them realize flexible employment at home.

Representatives of Tongzhou Women's Federation of Beijing went to the Chengguan District of Lhasa to carry out an assistance activity. On behalf of 15 women serving as "caring mothers" from Tongzhou, they donated 2,000 yuan (US$ 308) each to 15 students and expressed their hope towards targeted pairing assistance. The Tongzhou Women's Federation has recruited "caring mothers" since 2005, and has included the activity in the paired assistance between Beijing and Lhasa in 2018. Over the past 10 years, it has recruited more than 170 volunteers. The activity has had a far-reaching impact on caring for disadvantaged groups and the growth of orphans and disabled children, and building a harmonious society.

In the days when people celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet, the activities organized by BWF and Lhasa Women's Federation were welcomed by women in Lhasa. They said that the activities let them feel the deep love of sisters in the capital and made them have deeper love for the strong motherland and great Party. They said they will use the power and energy spread by the activities to make unremitting efforts to build a beautiful and rich Tibet, extend the strength brought by their sisters in Beijing, and contribute to the building of a modern socialist country in all aspects.
