Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese Holds General Meeting

Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese held its seventh general assembly in Beijing on September 25. Some 100 members of the association attended the event, during which the work report of the sixth board of directors was deliberated and adopted. New members of the board of directors and board of supervisors were elected. Pansy Ho Chiu-king was elected as president of the association and Zhong Jin was elected executive vice-president.

Song Wei, deputy director-general of the Liaison Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), Jiang Jing, head of the section for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs of the Liaison Department of ACWF, Jiang Lan, head of the section for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs of the United Front Work Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, Tan Hong, vice-president of Beijing Women's Federation (BWF), Sun Zhaoping, head of BWF's Liaison Department, Liu Xianchuan, deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Beijing municipal government, and Li Dongjuan, deputy secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and vice-president of the Beijing Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Zhong Jin, executive vice-president of Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese, delivered a report on the association's work over the past five years. The association will continue to play an important role in serving China's development and national unification by gathering women's power, said Zhong in her report.

Ho, attending the meeting via video link, spoke highly of the association as a bridge connecting overseas Chinese and compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan with the capital through abundant exchange activities. She called for members' efforts in boosting the development of the association for the great cause of China's unification.

Tan reviewed the achievements of the association during its 33 years of development and its work in recent years of organizing exchange activities, uniting women compatriots and COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control. On behalf of BWF, she expressed hope that the association will focus on its mission of uniting women compatriots, serve the high-quality development of Beijing and better connecting women in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese.

Jiang Lan, head of the section for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs of the United Front Work Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, praised the association for its undertaking of responsibilities as a women's social organization in the capital, especially non-governmental exchanges between Beijing and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, fully carrying forward the function of united front work. She hoped that the association will continue promoting the great unity of the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation and deepening work for people-to-people exchanges and make new achievements for Beijing's development.

Established in 1988, Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese is a social organization administrated by the United Front Work Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and a member unit of the BWF. It has always closely focused on the overall situation of reform and development of the capital, insisted on extensive unity and contact with compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese and their relatives, and made active efforts in enhancing exchanges, fostering friendship, promoting development, and playing an influential, cohesive and attractive role.
