BWF Takes Action to Support Couriers' Families
Date:2021-11-12 9:56:14 Views:To show care for couriers as a new employment group and explore effective approaches to serve women in the group and families of couriers, Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) has implemented a program through which it directly learned practical needs of families of couriers and helped realize the families' wishes.
Cadres of BWF conducted a question survey among 126 interviewees from 16 major courier companies and food delivery platforms to learn the group's thoughts and their families urgent needs and difficulties.

According to the interviewees, they had long working hours, high pressure and inadequate salaries. They shared their wishes, which included their personal needs such as large thermos, Bluetooth headphones, and portable chargers, and some gifts for their families, such as toys and learning machines for their children; scarves, cotton-padded clothes, and sportswear for their parents; lipstick, silk scarves, and small household appliances for their wives or girlfriends. Other wishes were more specific — for example, some of them asked for immediate medical checkups for their kids, since they're usually too busy working to wait in long lines at hospitals.
After hearing their wishes, BWF workers contacted the families for details about the couriers' wishes and found 60 wishes realizable. They then called on social forces to help realize the wishes. Due to quick response of kind people and companies, all the wishes were realized within a week. The things on the wish list were purchased and delivered to the couriers. With the help of a children's hospital, a 3-month-old baby got a medical exam, accompanied by the mother and volunteers.

During the activity some touching stories happened. A man who had been a courier recommended a courier whom he knew and who needed help and said the activity was heartwarming. A courier expressed gratitude for the help and care given by the organizer.
