Stories of National Most Beautiful Families 2023 from Beijing

The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) recently announced 1,000 National Most Beautiful Families in 2023. Twenty-four of them are model households from Beijing. They have shown their strong affection for the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the country, their observation of revolutionary traditions and environment-friendly lifestyle, scientific parenting approaches, and their participation in volunteer activities.

The following are stories of the 24 families from the capital city.

Family of  Zhu Maojin, from Dongcheng district

Zhu Maojin is a resident of Caochang Community, in Qianmen Sub-district, in Dongcheng district. On February 1, 2019, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, visited Qianmen area during an inspection tour of Beijing. Since then, the three-generation family has put in mind Xi’s expectation of treating old hutongs in Beijing well to retain the city’s historical and cultural memories so they can take root in people's minds. The family has renovated its courtyard and proactively taken part in grassroots social governance, contributing to the protection of old hutongs.

Family of  Tan Daoliang, from Xicheng district

Tan Daoliang is the Party secretary of a residential community in Xicheng district. He has organized social workers and volunteers to visit each corner of the community, conduct maintenance of barrier-free facilities, repair broken locks and doors, promote the renovation of streetlights and old courtyards, and demolish illegal buildings. Kang Huijuan, Tan's wife, has shouldered the responsibilities of taking care of the family. His daughter Tan Yiran has also followed his example and is determined to make herself useful to society.

Family of  Li Dan, from Chaoyang district

Li Dan has devoted herself to the research of HIV/AIDS, immunology and vaccines and the exploration of new approaches in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Li rushed to Xiaogan city, in central China's Hubei province in the early days of the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic. Wang Yong, her husband, is a senior engineer with an institute under the China Academy of Space Technology and a designer of a remote control system for Chang'e-4 spacecraft. He granted full support to Li during her stay in Hubei. Their 6-year-old son understands his parents and knows that the country is the backing of families. The family has followed and passed down the tradition of loving each other and sticking to professional ethics.

Family of  Huang He, from Haidian district

Huang He is chief technician of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Limited. During the past three decades, he has successfully solved numerous technical problems and has been recognized as a national model technician. Huang has also played a leading role in the building of a national radar industrial base in Hubei in a move to help Beijing relieve its non-capital functions. His wife has also bagged dozens of awards and honors in recognition of her hard work in the aerospace industry. Their son, Huang Xiaoyang, has been enrolled at Harbin Institute of Technology and will carry forward the spirit of China's space mission.

Family of  Wang Dahu

The older generation of Wang Dahu’s family made notable contributions in the struggle for national liberation and they fostered revolutionary traditions of loving the Party and the country, living plainly and fostering virtues. Together with his father and wife, Wang has played an exemplary role as a CPC member at the workplace. His son Wang Hou became the only youngster in a municipal lecturers’ team in celebration of the centenary of the founding of the Party in 2021. The boy has been invited to speak about his family stories and express his strong affection toward the country. The family is committed to carrying forward revolutionary traditions and striving for the fulfillment of personal duties in the new era.

Family of  Zhang Suqing, from Fengtai district

Zhang Suqing, 95, became a member of a woman-oriented self-rescue association in a revolutionary base in Shanxi when she was 14 and she joined the CPC in 1944. The participation in revolutionary cause has made her keep in mind that the country is composed by numerous families. Zhang, who has four children, has often related personal experience to educate them and ask them to remain grateful, keep a low profile, cherish their life, work hard, and lead a healthy life. Under her influence, fine family traditions have been passed down.

Family of  Xie Ying, from Shijingshan district

Xie Ying is a teacher from a special education school in Shijingshan district. She has given great love to her students with physical and mental disabilities, and she has often used her sign language skills to assist local public security departments in dealing with cases that involved hearing-impaired people. During the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics, Xie provided sign language translation services to torchbearers and athletes. She also interpreted the events for athletes and audience with hearing disabilities during the Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Zhao Jinyuan, her husband, is an engineer and he was in charge of the design and modification of the commemorative banknotes for the Beijing Winter Olympics and Hong Kong dollars. They took their teenage daughter to take part in promotional activities for Beijing Winter Olympics. The family has contributed their strengths to the spread of the Olympic spirit.

Family of  Wu Yajuan, from Mentougou district

Wu Yajuan and her husband have been engaged in environmental protection for over two decades. Wu has used her agricultural background to help farmers reduce their use of fertilizers and pesticides, bolster their harvest outputs and adopt water-saving cultivation methods. Meanwhile, her husband has provided technological support to the safe usage and scientific supervision of fishery-related chemicals via conducting research of drug residue in aquatic products and its influence on the ecological environment of water territory, promoting the sustainable and green development of the fishery industry. The family has supported environmental protection with concrete actions.

Family of  Ji Jianchun, from Fangshan district

Since joining the Fangshan Federation of Youths in 2018, Ji Jianchun has worked with colleagues to raise food and other goods for disadvantaged children and military retirees with physical disabilities in Shunyi and Fangshan districts. In 2020, Ji voluntarily closed his personal business to support the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. He acted as a volunteer, for over 10 hours per day, to promote epidemic prevention and control policies and maintain public order in a nucleic acid testing site. Yang Hong, his wife, shouldered the responsibilities of taking caring of family members when he fought on the front lines of the epidemic control.

Family of  Zheng Jingjing, from Daxing district

Zheng Jingjing is a mother of two. She and her husband have studied and implemented the family education promotion law, guided their children to foster strong affection toward the country, and educated them to embrace the world with love and develop good habits in daily life.

Family of  Yan Zhuo

Yan Zhuo cannot walk independently because of a congenital disease. Under the support of her parents, she joined Beijing’s sports team of people with physical disabilities. Together with her teammate, Yan won a gold medal for China at wheelchair curling event during the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games. Before that, she won first place at the 2019 and 2021 World Wheelchair Curling Championships and pocketed a gold medal at the 11th National Games for Persons with Disabilities. Yan said that she will spread love and hope to help more people with disabilities find their way out and create a better life in the future.

Family of  Lu Chun, from Tongzhou district

Early in 2012, Lu Chun started to share her parenting knowledge and experience in the midst of travel and responded to the difficulties of her online followers. To date, Lu has written two child care books and worked with her husband to practice family education in a scientific way. She has also opened two online courses to help more women expand their horizons and seek continuous self-improvement. Since 2016, Lu has brought with her a Chinese national flag and incorporated patriotism into the education of her son during their travel. She intended to make the voice of China known from the perspective of a child and took back home the greetings from children in other countries. The short video "Hello China," shot and produced by Lu, has been added to the list of “Our 70 Chinese Stories” by the People's Daily and the People's Daily Online.

Family of  Qin Anqi, from Shunyi district

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, both Qin Anqi and her husband Li Boyu decided to hold a simple wedding ceremony. However, she received an unexpected call from her hospital and was sent to conduct mass nucleic acid test in township-level medical institutions amid the resurgence of the contagious disease on the eve of their wedding. Li supported her work and their wedding was held as scheduled, with the attendance of their parents.

Family of  Jiang Shurong, from Pinggu district

Jiang Shurong, 93, joined a women-oriented self-rescue association under the leadership of the CPC when she was a teenager. Since then, she has been dedicated to women’s cause. Xiong Manli, her husband, won numerous awards and honors for his extraordinary performance in the War of Liberation (1946-49) and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53). As a veteran CPC member, Jiang has led the family to remain loyal to the Party. She took the lead in participating in the improvement of rural environment, and promoting garbage sorting practices.

Family of  Hou Jie, from Huairou district 

As a CPC member, Hou Jie has proactively taken part in grassroots social governance, the organization of volunteer activities and the promotion of garbage sorting practices in her community. Her family has done their utmost to improve the environment of family and community .

Family of  Li Shuting, from Changping district 

Li Shuting is a social worker and has led many young people to take part in charity work and volunteer service. Under Li's influence, her teenage daughter Xu Xinyue has became an example in practicing garbage sorting. The family has devoted itself to the voluntary services to improve the environment and safety of their community.

Family of  Xue Yunbo, from Miyun district 

Xue Yunbo, who participated in paired-up assistance to Yushu city of northwest China's Qinghai province, has adopted an industrial supporting mode that included concrete projects, industrial bases and precise assistance. He also organized series activities to promote the sale of local agricultural products and assisted the city in its building of a national-level civilized city. Xues wife, Liu Ruiying, has shouldered the responsibility of taking care of the family.

Family of  Wang Feipeng, from Yanqing district 

As a technical worker of Beijing Gas Group's Yanqing branch, Wang Feipeng was in charge of the construction of gas facilities in Yanqing-based venues for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics. To ensure stable gas supplies, he visited the construction sites numerous times and worked with his teammates to handle difficult problems. Li Zhan, Wang's wife, is a middle school teacher in Yanqing district. She taught knowledge about the Winter Olympics among her students. During the Beijing Winter Olympics, the couple, both keen skiers, acted as technical officials and provided professional services in relevant events. They said that it was a great privilege for them to support the success of the Winter Olympics close to their home.

 Family of  Liu Kun

Liu Kun is an engineer with Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning & Design. During his participation in Beijings paired-up assistance to northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, he took part in the drafting and planning of urban development boundary and spatial development design and built close ties with a local household. Liu's grandfather is a veteran soldier of the Red Army. Liu has carried forward fine revolutionary and family traditions in his family. Chen Yanjun, Liu's wife, has taken part in the research of several major telecommunication projects and assumed the responsibility of caring for family members when Liu was in Xinjiang.

Family of  Li Guosheng

Li Guosheng comes from a family of railway builders. His father took part in the construction of the Chengdu-Kunming Railway under extremely difficult conditions. Li has been involved in railway construction for three decades. His son, Li Chenchen, has worked for a company under China Railway after graduating from college. The three generation of the family has made contributions to the development of the country's railway sector in a span of over half a century.

Family of  Ma Xiaoning

Both Ma Xiaoning and her husband, Zhang Zhining, are police officers. During the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Ma was responsible for the security of officials and athletes from home and abroad upon their arrival and departure, while Zhang was involved in registration. Their daughter, Zhang Yixuan, was a college student-turned volunteer for the Olympics. The family made their contributions to carrying forward the spirit of the Winter Olympics and helping Beijing succeed in  hosting both Summer Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games.

Family of  Ding Wenyun

Under the influence and education of his father, Ding Wenyun came to Beijing from Taiwan to study and work in Peking Union Medical College Hospital in 2002. Later, Ding met her husband and they settled in the capital city. In 2019, Ding became an executive director of the Association for Taiwan Medical Workers in the Chinese Mainland and its representative in Beijing. The family has made efforts to promote traditional Chinese culture and deepen mutual understanding between people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

Family of  Peng Dongfang

Both Peng Dongfang and his wife, Zhang Ting, are employees of e-commerce platform JD.com. They have supported each other at home and in the workplace. To support the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic, they delivered medical and daily supplies to residents across the capital city.

Family of  Zhu Guang

Zhu Guang comes from a family of artists and is an associate professor of trumpet performance at Central Conservatory of Music. His father is China's first-generation trumpet player and his mother is a famous pianist. Under Zhu's influence, his son Zhu Deen learned to play the trumpet since childhood. The boy presented a show at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics when he was only 9 years old.

These families from Beijing have created happy lives in their own way, and they have promoted socialist family virtues of patriotism, caring for each other, and pursuit of excellence, and passed down fine family traditions.
