Forum on Women's Development of 26th Beijing-Taiwan Science and Technology Forum Held

The forum on womens development of the 26th Beijing-Taiwan Science and Technology Forum opened in Beijing on September 20.

The forum was jointly organized by the Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese and Taiwan Women Elites Federation, and was supported by the working committee on women of Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, Beijing Women Scientists Association and Capital Women Professors Association under the guidance of Beijing Women's Federation (BWF).

With the theme "Science and Technology Empowers Women from Beijing and Taiwan towards a Brighter Future," the forum was attended by businesswomen and representatives of women's organizations from Beijing and Taiwan.

Also present were the following: Mu Hong, Director-General of the Liaison Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF); Zhang Yajun, Secretary of the Leading Party Group and President of the BWF; Liu Xianchuan, Deputy Director of Taiwan Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government; and Huang Xihui, President of the Taiwan Women Elites Federation.

Noting that both Taiwan Women Elites Federation and Huang have made positive contributions to the integrated development of Chinese women across the Strait, Mu said that the CPC and the Chinese government have attached great importance to bolstering national strength through science and technology and giving full play to women's roles in sci-tech innovation. The ACWF is committed to promoting the development of women sci-tech workers.

Mu called on all Chinese women to keep pace with the trends of history, safeguard the overall interests of the Chinese nation, engage in sci-tech innovation, deepen the exchanges between women across the Strait, and work together for the positive development of the cross-Strait relations in the realization of Chinese modernization.

Zhang said that she was delighted to sit down with women from Taiwan to talk about common issues and further deepen their bond in Beijing after a four-year break. She further said that the sub-forum on women has been held for 10 years during the Beijing-Taiwan Science and Technology Forum and that it has become a brand platform for the exchanges between women across the Strait.

Noting that Beijing is pushing for the building of an international sci-tech innovation center and a highland of high-caliber talents, Zhang expressed her hope that women from the two regions should work together with a unity of purpose to promote the peaceful development of the cross-Strait relations, strengthen talent exchanges, seek common development from mutual learning, and forge a closer bond. She went on to say that BWF will build more platforms for women from the two places to advance their exchanges and cooperation.

Huang expressed her thanks to BWF for its hospitality. She said that the development of science and technology has provided women with broader space in their career development and that women have made tremendous contributions to promoting economic and social growth and reshaping family values. She hopes that experts and scholars from Beijing and Taiwan will further deepen their exchanges and achieve win-win results in cooperation.

The theme speech section of the sub-forum was presided over by Zhong Jin, executive vice-president of Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese, and Zhan Yazhu, Vice-President of Taiwan Women Elites Federation. Eight speakers from Beijing and Taiwan related women's characteristics and strength to share their views of the cultivation of sci-tech talents, artificial intelligence, the digital economy and other sci-tech topics. They also talked about how to fully grasp opportunities and utilize sci-tech innovation in pushing for womens development.

After the forum, two enterprises, from Beijing and Taiwan respectively, signed cooperation agreements.

To make a sound preparation for the sub-forum on women, the 20-person delegation of Taiwan Women Elites Federation engaged in exchange activities for five days in Beijing. Its members visited cultural industrial parks and high-tech enterprises to experience the urban renewal and the robust development of cultural sector and the high-tech companies in the capital city. Visitors said that they will do their utmost to consolidate the bond with women in Beijing, expand and enrich the coverage and content of the cooperation between them, and advance the common development as well as prosperity of the two regions.

Yi Tong, executive vice-president of Beijing Women Scientists Association and head of the Institute of Innovation for Development, Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, delivers a speech about optimizing sci-tech innovation environment and promoting the cultivation of top talents. 

Lan Qingling, a regional manager with Taiwan-based Excelsior Medical Co., Ltd., delivers a speech about womens strength in promoting sci-tech development and innovation and sustainable development of society. 

Shuai Mei, president of Beijing AI-Robotics Technology Co., Ltd and a professor with the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering at Beihang University, delivers a speech about the development and application of robots and AI in the care of elderly people.

Cheng Yihua, a marketing manager of Taiwan-based Jasons Medical Co., Ltd and co-founder of an AI-supported medical examination system with Beijing Zhenyi Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd, delivers a speech about the development and application of AI technology in medical treatment.

Zhong Xin, vice-president of Capital Women Professors Association and an academic supervisor for doctoral students at the Business School of Beijing Normal University, delivers a speech about the cultivation of business talents in the digital age.

Wu Fangjun, general manager of Taiwan-based Chang Yueh Technology Co., Ltd, delivers a speech about how the application of intelligent technologies improves quality of medical and caring services.

Song Tingting, vice-president of Beijing Kuaishou Technology Co., Ltd., president of Kuaishou's women's federation and head of Kuaishou Foundation, delivers a speech about empowering women with sci-tech development and expounding the value of public welfare with benevolence.

Lin Yuxuan, president of Taiwan-based TV King Media Co., Ltd, delivers a speech about using technology-oriented media outlets to spread fine Chinese culture worldwide.
