The 13th National Women's Congress opens at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

 

The 13th National Women's Congress (NWC) opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on October 23. General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping attended the opening meeting. Ding Xuexiang, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a speech. Ding’s speech was warmly responded by members of the Beijing delegation to the congress.

General Secretary Xi’s presence at the 13th NWC showcased that the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core attaches importance to women and women’s cause and represented great expectation for women nationwide to march ahead and chase their dreams on the new journey towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The speech delivered by Ding has charted the right direction for the cause of women’s development on the new journey in the new era and will usher in a new chapter for the work on women. Delegates agreed that thunderous applause at the Great Hall of the People showed the common aspiration of women for adhering to the leadership of the CPC and making higher achievements in the new era.

Song said that the images of Chinese women from all walks of life became apparent to her when around 1,800 NWC delegates, along with 90 specially invited delegates from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, walked into the Great Hall of the People. No matter they are farmers, scientists, judges or astronauts, they have distinguished themselves with outstanding achievements. General Secretary Xi said that the country should remove all barriers to help women fully unleash their motivation and creativity and that the government needs to give full play to its functions in mobilizing social resources available and supporting women nationwide in creating wonderful lives. The NWC delegates from across the country gathered at the Great Hall of the People to listen to Ding's speech and shared their feelings about the tenacious efforts made by women in the building of a strong country and the realization of national rejuvenation. The firm leadership of the CPC over the work on women and children, together with legal and policy support, will guarantee the rights of women in political, economic, cultural, social and family sectors and help women shining brightly on the journey of national rejuvenation.

Zhang said that Ding's speech has fully hailed the pivotal role played by Chinese women in upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics and the function of women’s federations as bridges connecting the people with the CPC and the government. She added that the speech has further bolstered the sense of pride and the morale among women and helped them acquire a deep understanding of the decisive importance of the establishment of both Comrade Xi Jinping's core position on the CPC Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, firmly uphold Comrade Xi Jinping's core position on the CPC Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and uphold the CPC Central Committee's authority and its centralized, unified leadership.

The theme and direction of the cause of women’s development and the work of the women's federations are decided by the central tasks of the CPC. On the new journey, BWF will thoroughly study and implement important discourses by General Secretary Xi on women, children and the women's federations, and will pool the strength and wisdom of women through its work to contribute for the Party's cause. It will focus on the following objectives: strengthen political and ideological guidance on women with innovative approaches, make full use of local revolutionary resources, carry out the selection of the Capital’s Most Beautiful Families and the Capital’s Most Beautiful Women Strivers on a regular basis; meet new demands of women, children and their families, advance the implementation of special actions on further enhancing women's participation in sci-tech innovation, rural revitalization, employment and entrepreneurship, upgrade the Family Happiness and Well-being campaign, and encourage women to keep pace with the time and make contributions to the building of a strong country and the realization of national rejuvenation with concrete actions.

The 13th NWC is held at a critical time as the whole Party, the country and the people of all ethnic groups have earnestly studied and implemented Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and acted on the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress. Ding's speech has spoken highly of the historical achievements and tremendous transformation made by the country in the cause of women’s development, and bolstered women’s morale to follow the leadership of the Party and strive for greater achievements in the new era.

Wang said that as an NWC delegate and educator, she will bear in mind the fundamental mission of nurturing talents for the Party and the country and she will adopt Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to cultivate socialist builders and successors with an all-round moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic grounding and hard-working spirit, so that the future generations of talents can shoulder heavy tasks and responsibilities in the building of a modern socialist country. She vows to devote to education and make further contributions to enhancing the country's strength in education.

Lei Yalin, Party secretary of China University of Geosciences (Beijing)

Lei said that women in higher education institutions are the backbone of grassroots women nationwide and that they have played vital roles in fostering virtues through education, building China into a strong nation and achieving national rejuvenation. She said that the CPC committee of China University of Geosciences (Beijing) will integrate new tasks and requirements for the work on women in higher education institutions with the further improvement of work patterns which take organizational building as a basis, highlight innovative approaches and provide practical services to women. The university's Party committee will prioritize political building in the work on women and the ideological and political guidance of teachers and students, focus on key tasks in the field of higher education of Geosciences and provide platforms for the development of women teachers. She added that the committee will push for high-quality talent cultivation and high-level sci-tech innovation, align itself with national development strategies and the capital city's economic and social development and it will solve urgent problems and worries of women staff workers by improving related working systems and methods. The committee will guide women teachers and students in following the Party’s leadership, incorporate their patriotism and determination to build a strong country into the development of the university and the country, and make unique contributions to the building of a modern socialist country.

Noting that the 13th NWC is a major political event of Chinese women, Qinggele said that Ding's speech has fully shown the care, guidance and expectations that General Secretary Xi and the CPC Central Committee give to the cause of women’s development. She stressed that women have played an important role in the country’s economic and social development and such fields as family education and sci-tech development. She will spread the guiding principles of Ding's speech and the 13th NWC to more women and lead them in contributing to sci-tech innovation and the country's endeavors to achieve national rejuvenation.

Feng said that as a grassroots delegate, she felt inspired by the 13th NWC. Speaking at the High-level Meeting on the 25th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in October 2020, General Secretary Xi said that women are creators of human civilization and drivers of social progress. He also noted that women are important forces in fully building China into a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation. Feng underscored the importance of bolstering the will of women, bringing together their strength and showcasing their positive images in promoting women’s cause in the new era. The area of Datai sub-district is the largest of all sub-districts in Beijing and it has forests, mountains and coal mines. The sub-district area was seriously affected by the flood in July this year. She said that she will work together with her colleagues to promote the reconstruction of Datai, give full play to the functions of the women's federations in leading, connecting and serving women, and help women fully leverage their roles in the reconstruction work and make achievements in social governance. In the next step, the sub-district office will channel strength from the honor of National Model Civil Servants Unit toward the area’s green and high-quality development, safeguard its ecological environment and strive for a bright future with hard work.

Yu said that it is a high honor and privilege for her to attend the 13th NWC, which is an important political event of Chinese women of all ethnic groups. Ding's speech has fully shown the support and expectations of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core toward women's development and relevant work. Yu said that she will firmly follow the leadership of the Party, strive for higher achievements in the new era, and make contributions to social security and stability in the capital city.
