The list of the Capital's Most Beautiful Families for the third quarter of the year 2023 was released recently. The “Looking for the Capital's Most Beautiful Families” campaign was jointly held by the Beijing Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, Beijing Municipal Supervisory Commission, the Organization and Publicity departments of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Beijing Municipal Office for Cultural-Ethical Progress, Beijing Municipal Education Commission and Beijing Women's Federation (BWF). The theme for this year is forging ahead with a deeper love of the country on the new journey.

Seventy-five role model families represented by the families of Tong Danning, Liu Kuo, Meng Ermei and Chen Wencheng, are on the list.

The Family of Tong Danning: Carrying Forward Revolutionary Traditions

Tong Danning's father, Tong Xiaopeng, became a soldier of the Red Army and joined the CPC in June 1930. He worked as deputy secretary-general of the State Council, director of Premier Zhou Enlai's office, and deputy director of the CPC Central Committee's United Front Work Department.

Tong Xiaopeng worked under the direct leadership of Premier Zhou for over four decades and was committed to the history research of the CPC. He took part in the compilation and publication of three books that record his military career and his dedicated love for both his country and his Party. Tong Danning said that he has been deeply impressed by glorious contributions made by his father and other people in the same generation to the building of the country since the childhood. After his retirement, Tong Danning wrote a book about his father's participation in the Long March (1934-36). Additionally, he has served as secretary-general of the International Research Institute for Premier Zhou Enlai, Xihuating Fellowship Society and China Hongyan Descendants Association to make the revolutionary stories behind both Hongyan village and Xihuating, the former residence and office of Premier Zhou, better known. As a 57-year Party member, Tong Danning has always followed the political conduct of the Party and done his utmost to fulfill personal aspirations and mission.

The Family of Liu Kuo: Live Life to the Fullest on Ordinary Position

Liu Kuo is an ordinary delivery worker of domestic logistics giant SF Express. He has become a role model with hard work, eagerness to learn and down-to-earth attitude. Meanwhile, Liu has often held vocational training for new colleagues and lent a helping hand to those in need. Liu and other delivery workers were greeted by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, also Chinese president, during an inspection tour in Beijing on the eve of the Spring Festival, or traditional Chinese lunar New Year, in 2019. Liu was invited to attend the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and has been named a Beijing Model Worker. Liu's wife is also a migrant worker in the capital city. The couple deal with troubles in their life together, educate kids in a civilized, healthy and frugal manner and done utmost efforts to support the family.

The Family of Meng Ermei: Committed to Helping Flood-stranded Passengers

Meng Ermei is both the Party secretary and head of the Luopoling community in Mentougou district of the capital city. Meng deeply impressed numerous Chinese people with her dedicated spirit, concrete actions and the positive image of a Party member in the new era during her participation in the search, rescue and relocation of nearly 1,000 passengers who had been trapped for almost two days on train K396 by floods in early August. Meng said to them that she wouldn't allow anyone to have nothing to eat as long as she can help them. During the rescue and relocation efforts, Meng received utmost support from her husband and son. For instance, her husband, An Huijun, provided shelters to flood-trapped passengers, prepared meals for soldiers, sanitation and construction workers and took part in the removal of sludge on the ground. Her son, An Xuchen, shared his clothes and room with flood-affected people and acted as a guide for soldiers upon their arrival. Meng and her family have stood out, put the safety of the people in their hearts, and used their concrete actions to show the firm will and determination to follow the leadership of the Party.

The Family of Chen Wencheng: Cross-Strait Couple Dedicated to National Reunification

Chen Wencheng, who hails from East China's Taiwan province, is an honorary member of the Council of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots and an executive member of the Council of the Beijing Federation of Taiwan Compatriots. Chen has proactively taken part in public services and remained committed to telling the development stories of young Taiwan people on the Chinese mainland and working on cross-Strait integration. Chen's wife, Liu Hongfang, is a primary school teacher in Beijing. The young couple has lived in the capital city after their marriage. They have jointly founded an online cross-Strait marriage and family service community to help other couples like them fully enjoy public resources and solve specific difficulties in their lives. So far, the online marriage and family service community has offered a helping hand to over 20 couples and made unique contributions to the high-quality development of cross-Strait marriages. During the past few years, the inspirational stories of Chen and his wife have been covered by many leading national and regional media outlets. In the years ahead, the family will continuously play a positive role in promoting the healthy development of cross-Strait marriages.

According to BWF, this year's “Looking for the Capital's Most Beautiful Families” campaign will fully publicize and implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress, comprehensively act on important discourses by General Secretary Xi Jinping on family ties, family education and family traditions. It will select a group of role-model families who show firm love for both the Party and the country, support green development, raise their children and manage their families well, follow their piety obligations and practise civilized social norms, and promote positive family values as well as the building of a harmonious society in the new era.

It is scheduled to release a list of most beautiful families each quarter, unveil an annual list of 300 role model families and a concurrent list of the top 10 most beautiful families in the capital city, make their stories widely known, and promote the building of new socialist family traditions, which stress love of country and family, mutual love and assistance, the pursuit of benevolence and excellence, and the building of an inclusive society.
