BWF Launches Women-oriented Volunteer Services Campaign

Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) held a meeting on the morning of March 5 to mark the opening of a month-long campaign on learning from Lei Feng, a late soldier of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and a national icon, and further promote the work of volunteer services. The purpose of the meeting was to follow major objectives and tasks outlined by the 13th National Women's Congress of China, push forward the volunteer spirit of dedication, friendship, mutual help and progress, and leverage the unique roles of women's volunteer services in the participation in grassroots social governance, and the cultivation of new talents for the new era.

At the gathering, BWF's Department of Social Affairs summed up the capital city's women-oriented volunteer services work in 2023 and made arrangements of relevant work in the rest of 2024 as well as specific requirements for women volunteer services month activity. Representatives of Haidian District Women's Federation and three community-level volunteer services centers from Fengtai, Tongzhou and Daxing districts held talks over their efforts to nurture volunteer services brands, promote personnel and platform building, and make innovations in the organization of volunteer services.

Chen Yanping, Member of the Leading Party Members' Group and Vice-President of the BWF, attended and addressed the event. She said that the women's federations should fully grasp the importance of women-oriented volunteer service work, thoroughly study and implement important discourses by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping on volunteer services, understand the significance of women-centered volunteer services in the new era from the height of building a modern socialist country and advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and further enhance their sense of responsibility, mission and honor. Secondly, women's federations should accurately position themselves in the work of women-oriented volunteer services, promote the publicity of important discourses by General Secretary Xi on women, children and the work of women's federations, make the Party's policies designed to benefit the people better known, target their own key and major responsibilities, respond to pressing issues of high concerns for women, children and their families, align with central work of the capital city, and shoulder their responsibilities during major activities. Thirdly, women's federations should push forward the high-quality development of women-centered volunteer services, strengthen the studies of women-oriented volunteer work and come up with specific solutions and measures in solving concrete problems. They should bolster the coordination work of women-centered volunteer services, step up the support toward women-oriented volunteer work, further leverage the roles of incentive measures in the organization of women-centered volunteer services select and publicize the stories of role models, and build supportive platforms for women volunteers to play a larger role.

Those in attendance of the meeting included officials from 16 district-level women's federations in charge of volunteer work and representatives of 22 women-oriented volunteer service facilities across the capital city.
