List of Capital's Most Beautiful Families for 2nd Quarter 2024 Unveiled

The Looking for the Capital's Most Beautiful Families campaign was jointly organized by Beijing Women's Federation (BWF), the Organization and Publicity departments of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and other four authorities. A total of 100 model families, represented by the families of Cheng Yongmao, Wu Tongtai, Liu Zhenhua and Chai Bin are on the list.
Family of Cheng Yongmao: Dedicated to Protection and Restoration of the Great Wall
Cheng Yongmao, an expert in the technical restoration of the Great Wall, has been engaged in the protection and restoration of cultural relics for over three decades. Since 2004, he has firmly adhered to the principles of keeping original forms and utilizing original construction materials, techniques and methods in relevant restoration tasks, conducted hundreds of treks on steep and rugged mountain ridges along the Great Wall, made himself familiar with the Great Wall, and taken utmost efforts to preserve the original appearance of the Great Wall. Although Cheng is over 60 years old, he has remained steadfast to the protection and restoration of the Great Wall and continued his work at the frontline. Cheng's wife Su Fengqin has shown firm support to his work. Under the couple's encouragement, their son has become a registered construction engineer. Family of Wu Tongtai: Carry Forward Intangible Cultural Heritage of Kite Culture
It is the motto of Wu Tongtai, an inheritor of Cao Xeuqin Kite Culture, to choose one thing and stick to it for the whole life. In 2003, Wu started the research of Cao Xeuqin Kite Culture and relevant production techniques. As a major organizer and participant, he successfully helped the special handicraft be added to the state-level intangible cultural heritage list in 2011. Later, he has brought with him over 100 sets of traditional Chinese kites to attend arts exhibition and exchange events abroad, introducing the time-honored Chinese kite-making craft to other countries. Wu has promoted kite-related culture through lectures and practical-skill training activities on campuses and in enterprises as well as institutions. More than 200,000 people have attended his lectures. He has led the entire family to focus on the research of kite culture and launched a special public welfare initiative to help more families master the handicraft and strengthen their family building. Family of Liu Zhenhua: Share Personal Reading Room with Neighbors, Promote Environmental Conservation
Liu Zhenhua is a retired rural teacher who has dedicated herself to public welfare affairs. She has built a reading room with a collection of nearly 30,000 publications in her courtyard and invited neighbors, especially children to read their favorite books there. Liu has paid great attention to the philosophy of environmental conservation and earnestly promoted the recycling of many items to reduce waste at home. Her family is also widely known for its practice of mutual assistance, harmony and happiness. Liu and her husband have often lent a helping hand to others. Chai, a cadre of Beijing Federation of Industry and Commerce, has actively participated in targeted poverty alleviation and paired assistance tasks. In Xinjiang, he focused on promoting "smart industry-oriented assistance in Xinjiang," supporting industrial development in assisted areas, and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship to facilitate cooperation between enterprises in Beijing and Xinjiang. With the support of his family, Chai has overcome the harsh living and working conditions in southern Xinjiang to better engage in assistance work. He has written two letters which showcased his resolution to work with honesty in Xinjiang to his family. Influenced by Chai, his wife and children have proactively taken part in volunteer work on weekends, encouraging each other and practicing patriotism and harmony.
In 2024, the Looking for Capital's Most Beautiful Families campaign is carried out under the theme of "working hard on the new journey, realizing dreams of family and country." A group of role-model families who show firm love for both the Party and the country, support the green development, raise their children in a scientific manner, manage their families in a clean and competent way, follow their piety obligations and practice civilized social norms will be selected. The organizers intend to showcase positive images of local families on the new journey, and further promote core socialist values and new family traditions in the new era.
In 2024, it is scheduled to release a list of most beautiful families each quarter, unveil an annual list of 350 role model families and a concurrent list of the top 10 most beautiful families in the capital city, make their stories widely known through online and offline means, and promote the building of new socialist family traditions, which stress the love of the country and family, the pursuit of benevolence and excellence, and the building of an inclusive society.
