Capital Family Reading and International Culture Promotion Activity Held by Beijing Women’s Federation Ended Successfully

In the morning of November 23, 2013, “Reading and Watching” – capital family reading and international culture promotion activity held by Beijing Women’s Federation and Capital Library of China in Children’s Hall of Capital Library of China came to a successful end after lasting for two months. 

Through cooperating with cultural representative organizations of different countries like Russian Cultural Center and Spanish Cultural Center in Beijing – Cervantes Institute, and international cultural organizations like SoL-globe, the Women’s Federation invited Professor Peter M. Senge, a world-renowned master of management, Michael Gregniec, the author of Poland’s picture books, Iwamura Kazuro, famous Japanese master of picture books, and other guests to the activity, aiming to introduce more excellent international cultural resources to vast families in Beijing by taking the opportunity of promoting family reading, help them make full use of these resources, expand their horizons through reading, and strengthen their understanding about cultures of different countries on the basis of Chinese traditional culture inheritance.

The activity, held in Capital Library of China on November 23, showed the achievements of the promotional campaign. Ms. Catherine, the art director of Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, and teachers from China Children’s Press and Publication Group came to Mingde Children’s Reading Room and brought two wonderful Chinese and foreign story-telling sessions for the children. Children from Small Bell Chorus of Russian Embassy School presented Russian traditional folk song and dance music performance, which won warm applause. At the end of the activity, Russian Cultural Center in Beijing donated children’s books to Beijing Women’s Federation and Capital Library of China and declared that they hoped more capital citizens could know Russia through such activities, thus promoting the deep cultural exchange between both countries and enhancing the friendship between Chinese and Russian people. Achievement exhibition also propagandized “Reading · Happy Life” organized by Public Reading Association of the Women’s Federation. Representatives of migrant workers’ families in Beijing were invited to the activity. 

Various media like China Women, Foreign Periodicals Club of China Women, Sohu, Sina, Qianlong and People’s Daily Online reported the activity at the scene.
