Beijing Celebrates 2015 International Day of Families Together

On the morning of May 9, the “Celebrating 2015 International Day of Families Together” activity, which was hosted by Beijing Women’s Federation and organized by Beijing Women’s International Center, Fangshan District Women’s Federation and Hancunhe Town People’s Government of Fangshan District, raised the curtain in Shangda-Wolifu Farm in Fangshan District. The activity, themed on “Happy Farm Day”, invited around 800 persons for participation, including representatives from the families of diplomats in the embassies of 42 countries in China, representatives from the families of foreign experts and representatives in Beijing, of whom, Mohamed Faisal, the ambassador of Maldives and Charles Madibo Wagidoso, the ambassador of Uganda also attended the activity with their families. The guests attending the launching ceremony included Ma Lanxia, the Chairwoman of Beijing Women’s Federation, Zhou Zhijun, the Vice Chairwoman of Beijing Women’s Federation, Li Jiang, the Vice Secretary of Fangshan District Party Committee, Cao Lei, the Deputy Chief of Fangshan District, Gao Shuangjin, the Vice President of Beijing NGO Association for International Exchanges, Gui Fan, the Vice President of Beijing International Chinese College, etc.
In her speech, Ma Lanxia mentioned that Beijing Women’s Federation will set up an exchange platform every May for both Chinese and foreign families living in Beijing to enhance mutual understanding, in the hope of directing the attention of more families at gender equality, climate, water resources, land and other problems as well as ecological environment protection. Li Jian, the Vice Secretary of Fangshan District Party Committee introduced the natural and cultural conditions of Fangshan District, and expressed welcome and gratitude to all guests on the ceremony.
In the activity, more than ten interactive experienceactivities were organized around the construction of family culture and ecological civilization. In addition to these, the collection of signatures for Letter of Appeal for Water Conservation launched by Beijing Women’s Federation and “HeforShe” activity for sending a wish launched in cooperation with UN Women were also organized on site. A number of Chinese and foreign guests left their thinking and wishes about environmental protection and gender equity on site.
