The final round of the Nepal division of the 22nd “Chinese Bridge” Chinese proficiency competition, an annual Chinese proficiency competition for non-Chinese college students, was held in Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal, on June 11. “I want to visit China, discover its mountains and cliffs, and enjoy the lucid waters there. The most important thing that I wish to do is visit those who have lent a helping hand to me and say thanks to them,” said Riyana, a Nepalese contestant, in the final competition.

Riyana is a recipient of the “Mulan POWER” Charity Fund. The fund was launched by the Beijing Women and Children’s Development Foundation and the Beijing Women’s International Center, under the guidance of the Beijing Women’s Federation, in October 2018. The fund is established to pool the strength of people from all social sectors toward promoting exchanges and cooperation among women and children from China and other countries. The Mulan POWER Female Students Scholarship Program was the first project under the fund. Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, has called for the empowerment of women through educational transformation. Through the program, Chinese women sponsored women Nepalese students from impoverished families finish high school education, hoping that the students will have a better future through education, and become ambassadors for the friendship between China and Nepal.

Riyana and other Nepalese girls have studied hard and attended two-hour Chinese language classes a day since receiving financial aid from the “Mulan POWER” Charity Fund. In October 2019, Riyana participated in a ceremony at Kathmandu airport to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping. She continued with her Chinese studies despite the impact of COVID-19 and in January 2021, she delivered an outstanding performance in the “Chinese Bridge” contest held online. She has moved forward with her Chinese learning and passed the Chinese proficiency test (HSK) level IV since she enrolled Tribhuvan University in 2022.

In the final round of the 22nd "Chinese Bridge" competition in Nepal, Riyana talked about the assistance granted by Chinese women and conveyed her gratitude and desire to thank them in person. After the competition, Chen Song, Chinese ambassador to Nepal, learned about the implementation of the “Mulan POWER” Charity Fund in Nepal.

The healthy growth of Nepalese beneficiaries of “Mulan POWER” charity fund embodies the deep love of Chinese women and consolidated traditional friendship between the two countries. In the years ahead, the fund will continuously bring together the love and compassion of people from all social sectors and cultivate the fund’s beneficiaries into a bridge between Chinese women and their foreign counterparts.
