On May 30, the “Books Nourish Young Hearts, Reading Brings the Future” 2026 “Firefly Wish” Children’s Day special event, guided by the Beijing Women’s Federation and hosted by Bank of Beijing and Beijing Radio & Television Station, was successfully held. Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, Vice President, and First Secretary of the Secretariat of the All-China Women’s Federation, and Vice Director of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, attended the event. Participants included Zhang Jinlin, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Director of Beijing Radio and Television Station and Deputy Director of the Municipal Publicity Department; Dai Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Bank of Beijing; and Chen Yanping, Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice President of the Beijing Women’s Federation and Executive Deputy Director of the Municipal Working Committee Office on Women and Children, among others.
The event fully implemented the requirements of the Regulation on Promoting Nationwide Reading, closely followed the overall deployment of building a child-friendly city in Beijing. With reading as the core link, it connected cultural inheritance and children's growth. Through various forms such as literary and artistic performances, sharing by famous experts, and action announcements, it created a Children’s Day cultural feast with cultural heritage, a sense of the times, and a touch of public welfare.
Cultivating the Soil of Nationwide Reading to Lay the Foundation for Children’s Growth with the Fragrance of Books

The event positioned children’s reading as an important means to fulfill social responsibility and empower children’s growth, making reading a bridge connecting childhood and the future, families and society. Child representatives from various regions connected classic textbook passages such as The Little Boat, Snow Child, and Young Runtu, using their innocent voices to bring to life the starlight of childhood found in textbooks, awakening reading memories across generations. The event specially invited children's literature writer Ge Bing to share on site, emphasizing that “reading is the soil of imagination.” At the event, the Beijing Women’s Federation launched the “Family Reading of Classics” parent-child co-reading recommended booklist, providing scientific reading guidance for families in Beijing and making parent-child reading an important vehicle for passing on fine family traditions.
Children from Various Regions Perform Together, Painting a Colorful Picture of Regional Culture and Reading Integration

The event gathered child representatives from across the country, featuring three segments, “Textbook Wonder Night,” “My Hometown, My Advocacy,” and “AI Future Dance Power.” The Grand Canal Poetry Contest showcased the millennia-old cultural lineage of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal through a north-south poetry competition. A robot dance show integrating AI and art demonstrated the innovative spirit of contemporary youth. Various regional performances complemented each other, presenting the breadth and depth of China’s excellent traditional culture as well as the spirit of children in the new era. Children from various places communicated on the same stage, fully reflecting the child-friendly atmosphere with Beijing as the stage and the whole country participating.
Three Parties Jointly Launch a Series of Actions to Build a Comprehensive Child Growth Companion System

At the event, the Beijing Women’s Federation, Bank of Beijing, and Beijing Radio and Television Station jointly launched the “Small Hands, Big Hands” child-friendly action series. Centered on the three dimensions of “reading ten thousand books, traveling ten thousand miles, and telling good stories,” the initiative aims to build a comprehensive, multi-scenario child growth companion system. Bank of Beijing introduced the “Jingmiao Reading Club” brand project, upgrading children’s services in four areas: reading spaces, book purchases, charitable activities, and events. The Beijing Women’s Federation released the “Children’s Journey in Beijing” child-friendly themed routes, guiding children to understand the city from a “one-meter-high perspective” and visit cultural and technological landmarks such as the Central Axis, Zhongguancun, and Huangchenggen, while contributing ideas for urban development through exploration. Beijing Radio and Television Station launched the “Little Reader” children’s reading and expression program, providing a media platform for children to express themselves, ensuring their voices are heard and their expressions encouraged.
Children are the future of the nation and the hope of the people. All parties will continue to advance child-friendly development, enrich child-friendly products and services, empower cultural public welfare through charitable efforts, and nurture young hearts with the companionship of reading, allowing every child to blossom toward the sun amidst love and the fragrance of books.
