“Intelligence and Beauty in Dual Bloom, Cross-Field Integration” Women in Science and Technology Forum Successfully Convened

On June 26, the “Intelligence and Beauty in Dual Bloom, Cross-Field Integration” Women in Science and Technology Forum was held at Shougang Park. The event was co-hosted by the Beijing Women’s Federation, the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, and the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, and organized by the Beijing Women’s Association for Science and Technology.
Zhou Zhijun, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and President of the Beijing Women’s Federation, Wu Jianmin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and President of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, and Zhang Lijun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shijingshan District Committee, attended and addressed the forum. Jiang Nan, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Shougang Group, and Zhong Mianmian, Deputy District Mayor of Beijing Shijingshan District People’s Government, were also in attendance. Approximately 200 participants, including representatives from the Science Communication Center of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, the Shijingshan District Women’s Federation, as well as female professionals in science and technology and students from the capital, attended the event in person, while 515,000 people watched the livestream online.

Under the theme “Intelligence and Beauty in Dual Bloom, Cross-Field Integration,” the forum focused on stimulating scientific and technological innovation, promoting the transformation and application of research outcomes, and enhancing science literacy among the youth. In-depth discussions and presentations addressed cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements and their applications, AI plus culture, and interdisciplinary collaborative innovation. These sessions were chaired respectively by Li Jing, Executive Vice President, Liu Qinglian, Executive Council Member, and Wei Yonglian, Secretary-General of the Beijing Women’s Association for Science and Technology.

In her remarks, Zhou Zhijun noted that increasing women’s participation in science, technology, and innovation contributes to a more inclusive and effective innovation system, and that promoting cross-field exchange is an important way to fully unleash women’s potential in innovation. Science seeks truth and art pursues beauty, yet both ultimately serve to make people’s life better and happier. Strengthening exchanges among women in science and art enables mutual reinforcement: art brings humanistic depth to science, while science opens up new possibilities for art. She encouraged women scientists and professionals to break through boundaries and embrace interdisciplinary exploration, playing an active role in research breakthroughs and the transformation of scientific achievements. She also urged young people to embrace science and pursue a better life through relentless exploration and innovation.

Wu Jianmin stated that the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, in close coordination with the Beijing Women’s Federation and the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, has given full support to the development of the Beijing Women’s Association for Science and Technology, serving as an effective bridge that gathers talented women and pools innovative strengths. By openly sharing talent, research achievements, think tank, and science popularization resources, they have organized academic exchanges, industry salons, youth development programs, and public science outreach activities. These efforts have supported and empowered the growth of women science and professionals. Furthermore, they have helped advance the Women in Science, Technology and Innovation Initiative and build a distinctive Beijing brand for women’s innovation in science and technology.

Zhang Lijun noted that Shijingshan District has always placed great emphasis on attracting and cultivating women talents in science and technology, and has steadily advanced the implementation of the Women in Science, Technology and Innovation Initiative. This district continuously improves supporting talent policies, builds platforms for industry–academia–research collaboration and efficient transformation of scientific achievements, and refines a full-cycle talent service system to create a first-class innovation ecosystem that appeals to talents both near and far. These measures ensure women science and technology professionals can work with confidence, live with ease, and pursue entrepreneurship with ambition. This fully unleashes their innovation potential and pools their wisdom to contribute to Beijing’s high-quality development and to building Shijingshan into the western gateway of the capital.

The event featured three distinctive thematic sections, presenting the integration of science and art and the cross-disciplinary collaboration of women in science and technology.
In the session “Interwoven Threads: A Spiritual Symphony of Intelligence and Beauty,” Sun Lili, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chief Scientist of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, and Vice Chairperson (concurrently) of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, delivered a report titled Digital and Intelligent Transformation of the Petrochemical Industry and Its Practice. Based on the current development of the petrochemical sector, she systematically outlined the logic behind the digital and intelligent upgrading of traditional industries and shared pathways for transformation, representative cases, and practical experience.

Renowned lyric coloratura soprano Wu Bixia, Director of the Vocal and Opera Department of the China Conservatory of Music and President of the Chinese Vocal Art Research Institute, gave a thematic presentation titled Giving Voice to Our Era. From the perspective of integrating Chinese and Western vocal techniques, she underscored the importance of scientific rigor, logical thinking, and cultural subjectivity in aesthetic education, and interpreted the deeper value of integrating science and art across boundaries through the dialogue between beauty and truth.

In the session “Cross-Field Resonance: Synergistic Development and Mutual Growth,” Wang Chuandong, Party Secretary of the Beijing Shijingshan District Investment Promotion Service Center, introduced the district’s industrial layout and innovation support policies, highlighting western Beijing as fertile ground for innovation and entrepreneurship. Guo Shuiying, researcher at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Deputy Director of the Science and Art Center; Liu Wenbin, Deputy Chief Engineer and Senior Engineer of Tianjin Port Engineering Institute of CCCC First Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd.; and Du Juan, researcher at the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Director of the Digital Twin Research Center, shared insights on topics including “AI-Empowered Cultural Life Systems,” “Innovative Practices in Century Projects,” and “Digital Twin Design of Aero Engines as Major National Strategic Equipment.” Together, they explored new pathways for high-quality cross-disciplinary development and demonstrated the professional commitment and innovative vitality of women scientists and professionals in the new era.

In the session “Breaking Through Together: Igniting Scientific Dreams,” a series of science popularization and artistic performances was staged.
Beihai Park in Beijing presented a science mini-drama titled Seeing the World with Insightful Eyes, which imparted scientific knowledge through an engaging stage performance.

Student representatives from Shijingshan District shared the creative concepts behind their science-themed paintings, expressing young people’s aspiration to pursue science and their dreams for the future.

Female students from China Women’s University delivered a heartfelt recitation titled Women Shining Toward the Light, telling inspiring stories of pioneering women scientists who stayed true to their original aspirations and devoted themselves to research, passing down the spirit of women scientists from generation to generation.

In addition, the event featured robot performances, an exhibition of science-themed paintings, and guzheng performances, seamlessly blending science learning with entertaining experiences to enhance aesthetic appreciation while disseminating scientific knowledge.
