To promote Party history learning and education, Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) organized the second class of its lecture series for Party members at the Tianleyuan Theater in the Qianmen area, in downtown Beijing, on July 15. More than 100 people including all Party members and cadres of the BWF and its affiliated public institutions, as well as retired cadres, joint Party branches of social organizations, and representatives of Party members from Qianmen Sub-district Office participated in the event.

The participants watched a documentary film on poverty alleviation in Shawa Village, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in Southwest China's Yunnan province. The film truly and vividly records the story of how Shawa villagers, who love their homeland and look forward to the future, changed their destiny with the help of the Party and the government. It also records the Chinese government's spirit of not forgetting its original aspiration, seeking truth from facts, and serving the people wholeheartedly, and is considered a true, moving and emotional documentary film depicting China's battle against poverty.

Chai Hongfang, director of the program News Documentary on CCTV News and winner of the Beijing March 8th Red-Banner Holder medal, told the story behind the documentary film. With her original aspiration as a documentary film maker, Chai has been rooted going deep into the lives of ordinary people for a long time, telling stories about changes brought by reform and development with the lens, and sharing the major achievements in poverty alleviation with short stories.

The documentary was filmed in 2017 and released at the end of 2020. "We wouldn't leave until the village got rid of poverty," said Chai. "It's significant to record the landscape of China's rural areas, show the spirit of Chinese farmers, and the determination and strength of the Party committees and governments at all levels to fight poverty, and tell the stories of China's poverty alleviation to the world, especially at important anniversaries such as the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening-up," Chai added.

The audience said that they were shocked and moved after watching the film. The film used the most authentic angles and unpretentious language to make everyone feel the hard work and bravery of the Chinese farmers, their love for the land, their belief in the government, and the capability of the government to listen to farmers' voices, help them solve problems, and leave no one behind on the road to poverty alleviation. Through the film, everyone can feel the confidence and determination of the Party to unite and lead the people across the country to eradicate poverty, improve people's livelihoods, and realize common prosperity against the background of China's poverty alleviation, and see the historic achievements.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee has made a series of major decisions and arrangements for poverty alleviation. After eight years of hard work, under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping, the fight against poverty has been fully successful, and 98.99 million people have been lifted out of poverty, creating a historic miracle. Xi has pointed out that the fight against poverty is not the end, but the starting point for a new life and new struggle. Party members and cadres have expressed that they will learn and promote the spirit of poverty alleviation, invest with greater determination, energy, and confidence in the new journey of fully building a modern socialist country and contribute wisdom and strength to the realization of the second centenary goal.
