BWF Holds Event to Commend Women Role Models

The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and stands as a pivotal year for achieving the goals and tasks outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025). It is also the first year to fully implement the objectives and tasks set by the 13th National Women's Congress of China (NWC). Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) convened an event, at the headquarters of Beijing Radio & Television Station recently, to encourage women to become builders of the great cause, advocates of civilized social conduct and strivers who pursue their dreams, and to pool their strength for the high-quality development of the capital city. The event was attended by Zhang Yajun, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and President of the BWF, other senior officials of the BWF, representatives of industries and organizations where individual and group awardees come from.

The event consisted of three chapters. They focused on the fulfillment of responsibility and career development of women in the capital city under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), integrated the commendation of role models with the display of their positive image, and adopted such artistic forms as video shows, speech presentations, role plays and interviews to underscore the contributions made by women in Beijing to helping the country achieve its modernization drive and advancing the high-quality development of economic and social affairs on all fronts.

Members of the Capital Female Professors Association, a National March 8th Red-banner Collective, gave a musical ensemble performance titled "Greeting the Spring" as the opening show. During the first chapter, Li Chun, a National March 8th Red-banner Holder, spoke about her efforts to safeguard national security, fairness and justice, and the safety of numerous households. Meng Ermei, a National March 8th Red-banner Holder, briefed attendees about her stories of how she completed disaster prevention and relief work and how she helped some 1,000 passengers stranded by flood in the summer of 2023. Tsinghua University Primary School, a group winner of National March 8th Red-banner Collective, gave a scenario show to highlight its adherence to the spirit of educators, and its efforts to promote the building of a talent cultivation ecology with the participation of families, schools and the society, and the cultivation of socialist builders. Zhao Huijie, a National March 8th Red-banner Holder, and Shen Jie, an NWC delegate and awardee of Beijing Most Beautiful Women Strivers, spoke about the efforts and achievements made by women sci-tech workers to help the country make breakthroughs in core and major technologies, showcasing the self-respect, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement of Chinese women in the new era.

During the second chapter, Wang Shu and Li Jie, two National March 8th Red-banner Holders, held talks over the essence of being the most beautiful strivers and the love of both life and arts embodied by women in the capital city. The School of Biological Engineering at Beijing Polytechnic, a National March 8th Red-banner Collective, gave an interpretation of the glorious contributions made by its teachers to nurturing a new generation of leading technological workers and contributing to the high-quality development of the capital city. Huaqing Geothermal Office of Beijing Geothermal Survey and Research Institute, a National March 8th Red-banner Collective, spoke about its observation of professional ethics with youth and sweats and fulfillment of their responsibility in the new era.

At the last chapter, Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control, a National March 8th Red-banner Collective, spoke about its efforts to ensure public health during major events and safeguard the life and health of people in the capital city. Huang Huilin, a veteran Chinese soldier in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53), a teacher and expert in Chinese culture and a National March 8th Red-banner Pacesetter, told her personal stories which explained the spirit guiding Chinese women to bravely ascend the peak in their lives.

At the end of the event, representatives of China Female Artists Association, winners of National March 8th Red-banner Holder and Collective awards, NWC delegates, honorees of Beijing Most Beautiful Female Strivers, and executive members of women's federations jointly gave a chorus performance Women from all social sectors in the capital city will consolidate their faith, assume personal responsibility, pool their strength and write a new chapter in the years ahead.

The event also brought together women from different social sectors and representatives of the women's federations in local districts, universities, industrial chambers, delivery companies and internet enterprises.
