Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese Celebrates 35th Founding Anniversary
Date:2024-3-13 10:44:24 Views:A ceremony was held in Beijing on March 10 to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the founding of Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese. The association, established in 1988, is under the leadership of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Beijing Municipal Committee and is a group member of Beijing Women's Federation (BWF). During the past 35 years, it has made tremendous contributions to fostering strong patriotism among people in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and enhancing the unity of overseas Chinese.
The ceremony was attended by Li Zhaoling, former Vice-President of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Honorary President of Beijing Women & Children Development Foundation; Feng Xiwen, Director of the Beijing branch of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao SAR; Zhang Yajun, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and President of the BWF; Song Wei, First-class Inspector of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF); Yu Fengying, First-class Inspector of Taiwan Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government; Ma Dong, Second-class Inspector of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee; Li Xiaofei, Vice-President of Beijing Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese; and Su Wei, Executive Vice-President of Beijing Association of Taiwan Compatriots. It also brought together Pansy Ho Chiu-king, President of Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese; Li Qiaoyun, Liu Xiansu and Su Jianmin, former Vice-President of Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese; Zhu Xisheng, President of Beijing Women & Children Development Foundation; Sun Zhaoping, Secretary-General of the foundation; representatives of Beijing-based women's groups; and those who have granted Beijing Women & Children Development Foundation with long-term support to Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese. The ceremony was presided over by Zhong Jin, Executive Vice-President of Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese; and Ji Xing, a hostess and program producer with China Media Group.
Over the past 35 years, Beijing Women's Association for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese has promoted the inheritance and development of its traditions, played positive roles in strengthening the exchanges and integration between women from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, helped Hong Kong and Macao better align themselves with national development, and forged closer bond with women's organizations in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Ho Teng Iat, Permanent President of the Women's General Association of Macao (WGAM), Lau Kam Ling, President of the WGAM, Wong Yu Pok Marina, Vice-President of Hong Kong Federation of Women (HKFW), and Huang Xihui, President of Taiwan Women Elites Federation, conveyed their best wishes to the association upon its founding anniversary via video link.
Pansy Ho Chiu-king, President of the association, expressed thanks to the United Front Work Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, the BWF, and people from all social sectors who have provided the association with long-term support. She said that its members have made their contributions to pushing forward the exchanges and cooperation over women and children's affairs in Beijing and the two SARs (Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions), pooling social strength, building bridges of mind, cooperation and development for social development and the cause of women and children, and making full use of the functions of women's organizations in the united front work.
Ma gave a speech on behalf of the department. Under the leadership of its presidents, the association has persisted in strengthening its internal building, given full play to its unique strengths in uniting women patriots and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and abroad, promoted platform and brand building, and scored noticeable achievements, said Ma and added that the association has become a unique and vital player in the operation of the united front work.
Zhang showed her congratulations to the association on its 35th founding anniversary. She said that the association has worked closely with the BWF on the building of various service platforms for mutual exchanges and learning as well as the people-to-people ties, and forged ahead with all other Beijing-based women's organizations toward the high-quality development of women and children's affairs. She asked the association to further focus its efforts on enhancing national identity and cohesion among women from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and abroad, expand common ground and the convergence of interests, build bridges of connection for women, open a new frontier for Chinese women at home and abroad to seek development with unity, and make greater contributions to the realization of national unity and rejuvenation. Zhang went on to say that the BWF will firmly support the development of the association, strive to be a bridge and bond between all patriots from home and abroad, and make the stories of China and Chinese women better known across the world.
During the ceremony, the association presented the certificates of appointment to new members of its think tank, hoping that they will offer their intellectual support. Sun Qixiang, a National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter and former dean of the School of Economics at Peking University, delivered a speech under the theme of "Women in the New Era" on behalf of the expert team.
The association presented honorary titles to its members and people from all social sectors in commemoration of their special contributions and support. A charitable auction and artistic show were held after the ceremony, with the participation of all attendees.
